This Is is completely off topic and my guess may be completely wrong and maybe it is just a case of using sex in advertising . But I recently purchased a well made stiletto folding blade type knife. After I found out from some searching Google due to my curiosity about an advertising image. That the stiletto knife was first made in Italy It was Italian Americans who brought the switch blade to the united states . Anyway on to the question I went to the knife manufactures home page. They sell various things. Their was not any sort of sexual imagery for the other things they sold. Axes fixed blade knifes etc But on on the page for the switch blades and similar knifes. It had a really weird image. It was close up of a heavily made up woman with her eyes closed and a lipstick print in the middle of the knife blade . As I said it may be just a case of sex in advertising. I think I might be a reference to some movie or book ? The reason I am thinking this. Is because they did not use any sexual imagery for their other products . Any body have any idea's as to possible cultural references . IM thinking some movie or book about the Italian mob or the black hand or whatever. ?
I did not post the image becase it is an advertisng image .

sex is used in all kinds of advertising even if the product has nothing to do with it, for example carl's jrs commercials, they do that to attract more attention to their product

It is probably a sort of film-noir sort of association - the mysterious femme fatale and her concealed weapon. That sort of thing. (And also the word association with stiletto heels.)
