I tried it once in France. It was OK but I didn't really get too much of buzz. May be didn't do enough? Let me know if you try and like it.

it's ok - kinda tastes like licorish - nice out of the freezer on a scorching hot day

Yes, in Europe when I was a teenager. I didn't like it. No little green fairies for me :(
The room I was in was tiled with tons of little multicolour tiles. I saw them dripping down the wall and pooling on the floor (I really didn't like this) Also I felt really dizzy.

I've had absinthe many times..

Year ago, I brought a couple bottles back with me from Europe for some friends.:D A friend I brought back a bottle for went a little nuts and drank too much of it with some of his friends - not the way to do it. My other friends shared their bottle with me and we didn't go crazy like that.

After that, for many years I had a friend who made his own (don't try this at home, it's not a kit you can buy, like beer or wine! haha) It does taste awful (IMO - I don't like licorice at all) but in the end, my friend had come up with a better formula that had a little bit of grapefruit flavor which made it more palatable. We never had more than a couple shots (maybe a third but usually we just had two) throughout the evening, in addition to whatever we were drinking. I never really had any desire for things to get all crazy - like my other friend who'd drank the whole bottle in one evening had reported. It isn't a good choice if you're going to be playing drinking games or if you're trying to show off by drinking a lot.

So basically no, no fairies for me either..lol We all enjoyed those couple of shots and they felt just fine without us needing to have more until we were crawling on the floor. It's a nice, different buzz I guess. Now that you got me thinking of it, I miss it. lol Anyway, I don't think my friend makes it anymore anyway. :(

Its just a very nice liqueur. Try a glass and you will either like it or not (it tastes like sambuca or pernod). Try 10 glasses and you will have the effect of 10 glasses of any liqueur.

Sounds like somebody spiked your absinthe.

My friend makes his own from an old spanish recipe and all we've found is that it makes you think can drink more then you should. No hallucinations just a horrible hangover.

Is Absinthe legal in Canada? Where can I give it a try in Victoria? If not, well its a good a reason as any to visit Europe, maybe start in Nice and go evrywhere.
