Roe v. Wade will never be repealed. The matter is settled, legally. For politicians to use this as a vote getting platform is unethical, since it's a lame duck issue and waste of time, resources and money even to table. But more than that, it's the most egregious example of a politician exploiting an uninformed and ignorant electorate to reach or maintain office in order to further his or her own agenda. Notice they steer clear of real issues, ones where they can really affect change, and keep bringing up this done deal issue.
Abortion is a win-win issue for the right. They come off (to their followers at least) as compassionate and ethical, and the fact that they'll never do anything about it is something that can be forever blamed on the left. For the right, the abortion issue is a gift that keeps on giving.
