I think we should set up an "alert" or"advisory" section on this board for Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg as they have for Vancouver. Sps and clients alike could use it to communicate with respect to LE activities, bad clientsw, rip offs, false advertising, etc. I think it is something needed in these areas. Just wondering if anyone else thinks this would work here....

For Winnipeg it might become a bitching session - then again maybe not.

Here's a first post for all LE that read this board from Winnipeg (and I know about a dozen do - regularly).

You guys are in deep s**t with this latest shooting of an 17 year old Aboriginal teen in the North End. The guy was carrying a Robertson screwdriver ... so LE on duty pepper sprayed him, brought his hands to his eyes because of the sting, and Officer Koharski draws his glock, and pumps him full of lead.

Then the cop said, "I thought it was a gun?"

Smooth ... he's since been placed on video tape duty with "Operation Snapshot". At least he won't be able to pull "Dirty Harry" on the Streetwalkers on Sargent Ave.

"Let's be careful out there"

Know your rights

The best thing we can do to fight LE is educate SPs and their customers as to what the laws are and what their rights are. Many don't know...The Hell's angels Website for the Saskatoon charter has an excellent section called "know your rights" which is an excellent digest for anyone. It deals with how to handle yourself at traffic stops and when you are stopped on the street.

Calgary has the worst LE....They are like the Gestapo for the Mormon church and have killed many innocent people over the past few years. However, if SPs know their rights, they can operate quite nicely with little or no interference from these bastards.

I think your jumping to conclusions a little early. Hopefully the truth will come out in a review.

The LE fired 1 or 2 shots (again that will be detemined in a review) but saying "pumped full of lead" and pull a "Dirty Harry" leads me to believe you have already concluded what actually went down.

It's also normal procedure to have the cop on a desk job or paid leave after a shooting.

Sorry for hijacking thread.

Fuck that,if it were any other end of town that kid would still be alive, you can't tell me a couple cops can't handle a kid with a knife!Shoot him in the leg, arm, whatever there was no need for that, the Winnipeg police service is so full of corruption and fuck-ups it isn't even funny. And that asshole of a police chief seems like he can't be held accountable for anything lately.Cops are always power hungry geeks who got the shit kicked out of them as kids, and they come back later in life to take revenge on the general population!FUCK THA' POLICE!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not sticking up for the cops. Alot of them are power hungry Starsky & Hutch wannabe's. All I'm saying is wait until the review is done with before making any quick judgements.

I do, however agree with most points in the following article.

Lesson: Don't wield weapons at cops

By TOM BRODBECK -- Winnipeg Sun

I have some advice for anyone concerned about police officers using lethal force against members of the public.

It's simple advice -- common sense, really. The kind your mother or hockey coach might give you.

Here it is:

Don't go after a cop with a weapon, whether it's a knife, a screwdriver or a pointed stick. You may want to. You may think about doing it. But don't do it. I guarantee that if you do, it will only bring you trouble.

If you do have something you can use as a weapon on you when cops chase or stop you, don't pull it out, keep it under your jacket or coat. Better still, keep it at home.

If the cop asks you to drop the weapon, lay it gingerly on the ground.

You'll thank yourself later on for doing so. So will your grandchildren.

And for heaven's sake, if you are dumb enough to start wielding a weapon at a cop, back off when they start showering you with pepper spray.

You know that stinging feeling in your eyes? That's called your last chance.

I think you'll find that if you follow these very simple rules, cops generally won't shoot at you and you'll have an overall better chance at remaining injury free.

It works for me.

If a cop asks me for ID late at night, I show him my driver's licence.

I don't wrestle the cop or go for the Glock in his holster. I figure that would probably get me killed.

And if I do happen to have my trusty Swiss Army knife in my pocket, I don't take it out and start swinging it at the cop.

That wouldn't be good for my health.

It's good advice. And I think if everyone followed that, we wouldn't have stories about cops killing people.

I'm getting a little tired of this nonsense of always blaming police when they have to use lethal force against someone who lunges at them with a weapon.

It's the kind of nonsense I heard from Bonnie yesterday, an aboriginal woman who e-mailed me, enraged with the shooting death Monday of an aboriginal man. She claims it's "open season" on aboriginal youth.

"I am so disgusted about the recent killing of an aboriginal youth I haven't been able to sleep since I heard it on the news last night!" she wrote. "I am so disgusted about the excessive force the police use against aboriginal people that I could JUST SCREAM!!!"

When I asked her what option cops have when someone comes at them with a weapon, she said police should have talked to him or shot him in the leg, arm or shoulder.

Now, that's easy to say in hindsight.

Usually, though, what happens in a case like this is that police have a split second to react after exhausting all available options.

When someone's coming after you with a weapon, you don't always have the luxury of aiming to injure.

The real story here, though, is not why police couldn't have hit the guy in the shoulder or the leg.

The real story here is that someone was trying to attack a police officer with a screwdriver. That's serious business.

And when you do that, you can't reasonably expect a police officer not to exercise self-defence. It's not up to the police officer to risk life or limb when someone comes at them with a weapon. We don't pay them enough for that. They're not stunt men.

When their safety is at risk during an attack, they're justified in discharging their firearm.

If you don't attack cops with screwdrivers, baseball bats or bicycle chains, I think you'll find that -- by and large -- they won't shoot at you. That's my advice.
