After my first few poonings Ive grown interests in HIV and STD. Im not paranoid or anything (maybe a little:p). I just want to make sure im well prepared for this hobby.

When I was reading wiki, i found a interesting yet kinda disturbing fact that 26% of female sex workers are HIV postive. That means almost 3 in 10 workers that you are going to visit are infected with hiv.

I couldnt find the exact study but found two articles that talks about it. Apprently its a study conducted by the Brtish Columbia Centre for Excellence.

Does this study hold any truth?

Im sorry if this has been discussed already.

The perb thread cited by HankQuinlan is a fairly good analysis of the study and even accounting for the misleading spin given by the media it shows that there is local group of SP's engaged in "survival sex work in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside"

I thought LAG's trip to Thailand was dangerous but there is a high risk source in the DTE of say 500 SP's

An interesting question would be how many customers seeking BBBJ have paid a visit to the DTE ?

texbook123, I'm not a medical professional, so take this with a grain of salt and get some backup from medical journals or PERBs very wonderful Health Nurse...

From the reading I've done, it seems HIV is a difficult virus to transmit. If you're doing the penetrating during unprotected vaginal intercourse, and the woman is HIV+, you have a 1 in 2000 chance of contracting the virus. Let me repeat that. IF the woman is HIV+, AND you're unprotected, you have a 1 IN 2000 CHANCE of contracting the virus. If you're protected, the odds jump to something astronomical, something like 1 in 10 million. (The odds are that high because they're calculated, not because someone had protected vaginal sex with an HIV+ woman 10 million times before they got HIV!!)

Throw in another figure: the odds that the SP you're with has HIV is very low unless as the fine Ms. Harmony mentioned you cruise streetwalkers or the DES. Remember that the SP has to be HIV+ before you can be at risk for HIV infection, and even then the odds are very much so on your side so long as you're wrapped up.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
this thread keeps getting repreated over and over......

it is a study done by people i know and is exclusively about street entrenched, drug addicted sex workers on the street in the DTES.

the author of the report is clear about if you read it. it is not 26% of ALL vancouver sex workers. it is 26% of workers in the DTES demographic. it was known as the MAKA project.

many people think all of those girls have HIV, but they don't. actually only 26%....so even cruising cordova as long as you use condoms you should be fine!

love susieXXXO
ps-hope everyone is well!
