LOL,

I remember 15-20 years ago, seeing a report that people in Norway or Sweden, could go to a vending machine and pay from their phone, also they could control their house alarm from anywhere in the world with phone access, they could open the garage door etc etc, Thinking that was cool........

Now, that I am an adult.. (well think I am) I am not jumping with joy to have to deal with companies like the phone companies, that make all sorts of mistakes, and force me to call them (spend 10-20-30 minutes sometimes more to fix a simple problem.... and charge for services they don't deliver.... (bill my the minute, for a 5-6 second call, erase my unused minutes at the end of the month, then next month charge for extra minute used.) So I want to sign up for more with them????...... NFW...... Don't get me wrong I love the idea, but just not with those partners. When I call my credit card company, I don't get the same run around.... so I would consider them......

I can see it, the phone companies, will round off the payments?? you want to pay 94.50, they will pay who-ever 100$, and do it automatically until you call them to stop? LOL and then charge you for the time or data time.....

Apparently telus is unable to send texts to the correct numbers 100% of the time; who knows what they would do with your money.

Read this on the CBC website today:

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/06/12/zoompass-mobile-payment-enstream-phone-wallet.html

If you don't want to click the link, basically it would allow you to transfer money from one person to another via your cellphone/smartphone.

Kind of cool, I think! Hopefully we'll see some SP's sign up for this!
In our country where even the bank can't deposit your cash in the right account and wire transfers end up in the wrong continent, this should be banned I think. In some other places like Germany where banking has rules and guidelines and people take this seriously, it is currently a great convenience.

So clearly, when someone says "if you don't want to click the link..." no one does...ha ha!

It's not the actual cellphone provider doing the transfer...it's done through a third-party app that's installed on your cellphone (something similar to Paypal).

From the article:

The service, called Zoompass, will be managed by Enstream, a joint venture the three carriers first established in 2005, when it was called Wireless Payment Services, to investigate the potential of mobile commerce.

Mobile phone users with a plan with Bell, Solo, PC Mobile, Rogers, Fido or Telus will be able to register for the service online and then download the Zoompass software onto their phone. By using the software on the phone, they will be able to send, request and receive money to other mobile phones via SMS text messaging, or, if the other user is also a Zoompass account holder, via email.

Money can be drawn from an account the user sets up or from their credit card. Each withdrawal will cost 50 cents from the account, or 3.5 per cent of the transaction if from a credit card. (As a result, sending dollar amounts under $15 are actually cheaper to do using a credit card.)

Users will be able to send or receive as much as $250 and hold as much as $1,000 in their account. Confirmation receipts for transactions will also be sent by SMS. For security, the user enters a personal identification number upon launching the software and again whenever they conduct any transaction.
Hopefully that clears things up for everyone...ha ha!

Besides the chances of glitches like people have mentioned above, this wouldn't be practical for paying SP's for privacy reasons.

Most working girls use cel's that are registered under pseudonyms, but to get the $ they would need to have the phone and the Zoompass account linked up to their real bank account, making it too easy to connect the dots.
Plus, I imagine this type of transaction would leave an information trail that most married pooners would not be comfortable with.

The technology is pretty cool, and I do see a time where this will be common, but in this business cash will always be the standard payment method.

This sort of thing is another tiny increment closer to a Cashless Soceity.

At the risk of sounding like the paranoid conspiracy people, that is one bit of future I think is to be 'feared' & avoided.

If there is no cash, there is no more privacy, as the banks and governments can track us everywhere.

(And when your governement suddenly puts innocents on a watch list, like did happen after 911, it is a serious issue).

I regularly pay by email transfer. It works very well, is reliable, and as long as you are with one of the big banks, no issues. If the SP is at the same Bank as you, even a direct deposit can be made by internet.

Now, yes, I know whom I am paying, and we have a trust relationship. Most gals aren't going to let a stranger in their door, with a promise that an email will follow. and not all SP's are computer literate or connected on line to banks. It would be foolish to deal in other than cash. But when you have a steady, and it is easy to just play and email pay, great. There is trust with my group. Never been an issue.
Same bank transfer doesn't cost you much. But you need to know other person's transit and account number. Otherwise, you need interac email money transfer. :D
