In the days after Hurricane Andrew Bush the Elder visited Florida. The interstate was packed with people returning to their home after fleeing the storm, insurance adjusters by the truckload, and huge amounts of relief supplies such as food and drinking water. All traffic on the interstate was stopped for over an hour while the president's mile long motorcade went on it's sightseeing tour. National Guard, Highway Patrol and Secret Service stopped all frivolous traffic carrying silly things like food and water so his exhaltedness could drive by and peek out his limousine window at the commoners.
Aren't you the same type of guy that was complaining that the PRESIDENT didn't do enough and wasn't even visiting the devastation in a timely manner.

What a dick.

See "Katrina Timeline" with Condi buying Ferragamos and rallying with Monica Seles at the Open while Lake Pontchartrain pours into the poor neighborhoods of New Orleans.

And more...

Wildonion,
How come this web site contains no criticism of the local or state authorities (ie: the Dems)? Do they actually feel everything’s 100% the Feds fault and the locals did absolutely everything they could and did it all correctly? Just wonderin'....

There's plenty of criticism. It's coming from the right wing apologists who are trying to avoid responsibility.

But the real fault lies at the level it needs to, at the federal level.
FEMA was created for exactly this kind of crisis, & has been emasculated by reactionaries under Bush because they don't care about blacks & poor people, & would just as soon have them die. It's headed by politicians w/ no emergency experience, was downgraded from cabinet level status, and funds were cut, for FEMA and water control, even when people prophecied the worst could happen because of their actions.

Even Republican lawmakers who supported these moves are faulting FEMA, especially the ones who had their own homes swamped by the disaster down there.

Then they go out & spin to cover their asses

From earlier sources:
According to The New York Times, Karl Rove and Dan Bartlett, the White House communications director, began a campaign this weekend to blame local and state officials. The "woefully inadequate response," said "sources close to the White House," was the fault of "bureaucratic obstacles from state and local officials."

The bottom line is they're playing the race card. As many of you have noted, it is a racial issue that poor people suffer most in any natural or economic disaster. Because Katrina hit the Deep South, a great many of the poor people affected are black, especially in New Orleans.

No, no, no. Wildonion, re-read my question.
& again i say there's plenty of fucking criticism by assholes who apologize for the right wing, are you blind or just stupid?

Bush Urges Victims To Gnaw On Bootstraps For Sustenance
WASHINGTON, DC—In an emergency White House address Sunday, President Bush urged all people dying from several days without food and water in New Orleans to "tap into the American entrepreneurial spirit" and gnaw on their own bootstraps for sustenance. "Government handouts are not the answer," Bush said. "I believe in smaller government, which is why I have drastically cut welfare and levee upkeep. I encourage you poor folks to fill yourself up on your own bootstraps. Buckle down, and tear at them like a starving animal." Responding to reports that many Katrina survivors have lost everything in the disaster, Bush said, "Only when you work hard and chew desperately on your own footwear can you live the American dream."

Okay fucknuts I tried to be civil....you're starting to make Doltman look like a genius. The question is:

How come this web site (as in http://www.thinkprogress.org/katrina-timeline) contains no criticism of the local or state authorities (ie: the Dems)? Do they actually feel everything’s 100% the Feds fault and the locals did absolutely everything they could and did it all correctly? Just wonderin'....

As your father, who probably married his sister, says "stupid is, what stupid does".

Because assholes like you & other apologists don't control it.

Why don't you ask why the web site doesn't serve you cheetos though the computer screen while you read, asshole? It's an assinine question.

Only fools like you would put stuff up that is wrongheaded & idiotic, don't expect that website to follow your lead. You lay blame where it belongs, while the reactionaries tried to avoid it & claim they couldn't get the aid down there cause the locals didn't filll out the right forms.

Harry Connick Jr., among others, had no trouble getting down there w/o aid -- he now has more credibility to run FEMA than the right wing assholes who do now

Yeah that's me alright. I'm the voice of support for George Bush and the Republicans for not only this board but all of Canada. You are the Dem version of Doltman and you both deserve each other. Why is it most of you slobs have to be so far either way, left or right, that your blind loyalty to your own or hate of the other clouds any reasonable point you're actually attempting to make. No wonder the U.S. is in such a mess. Fucking lunatics....

So the site you are quoting from is controlled by some other body that lacks an objecitve voice. Any sentinent person knows that there is ample reason to blame all levels of government for this tragedy and heck, I'd throw a little blame at human nature as well -- a number of survivors have admitted that their own complacency was a reason for the distress they found themselves it. they had rode through a lot of hurricanes and expected they would ride through this one as well. Pretty big OOOPS there.

Also what is it with you cut and paste expert's obsession with Cheetos. there's a poster on the toronto board with a similar style to yours who also speaks disparigingly about right winger's love of Cheeto's -- is there some deep Alphonse Coors connection I don't know about.

As for harry Connick Jr as head of FEMA - I hear he's pegged to play him in the MOW.

LK, I posted this in the other thread but a reasoned question you ask deserves a reasoned response and not hate rhetoric. Here is a response that does not include blaming everyone for lack of self-initiative:

The chain of responsibility for the protection of the citizens in New Orleans is:

1. The Mayor
2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security (a political appointee
of the Governor who reports to the Governor)
3. The Governor
4. The Head of Homeland Security
5. The President

What did each do in the wake of this NATURAL disaster?

1. The mayor, with 5 days advance warning of this event, waited until 2 days before he
announced a mandatory evacuation (and at the behest of the President). Then
he failed to provide transportation for those without transport even
though he had hundreds (over 800) of buses at his disposal.

2. The New Orleans director of Homeland Security failed to have any plan
for a contingency for an event that has been talked about for 50 years. Then he
blames the Feds for not doing what he should have done. (So much for
political appointees!)

3. The Governor, despite a declaration of disaster by the President 2
DAYS BEFORE the storm hit, failed to take advantage of the offer of
Federal troops and aid. Until 2 DAYS AFTER the storm hit.

4. The Director of Homeland Security positioned assets in the area to be
ready when the Governor called for them

5. The President urged a mandatory evacuation, and even declared a
disaster State of Emergency, freeing up millions of dollars of federal
assistance, should the Governor decide to use it.

Oh and by the way, the levees that broke were the responsibility of the
local landowners and the local levee board to maintain, NOT THE FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT.

The disaster in New Orleans is what you get after decades of corrupt
government going all the way back to Huey Long.

Finally, I know I call this a natural disaster but this is not a natural disaster. It is a man-made disaster.

The man-made disaster is not an inadequate or incompetent response by federal relief agencies, and it was not directly caused by Hurricane Katrina. This is where just about every newspaper and television channel has gotten the story wrong.

The man-made disaster we are now witnessing in New Orleans did not happen over the past four days. It happened over the past four decades. Hurricane Katrina merely exposed it to public view.

The man-made disaster is the welfare state.

What Hurricane Katrina exposed was the psychological consequences of the welfare state. What we consider "normal" behavior in an emergency is behavior that is normal for people who have values and take the responsibility to pursue and protect them. People with values respond to a disaster by fighting against it and doing whatever it takes to overcome the difficulties they face. They don't sit around and complain that the government hasn't taken care of them. They don't use the chaos of a disaster as an opportunity to prey on their fellow men. But what about criminals and welfare parasites? Do they worry about saving their houses and property? They don't, because they don't own anything. Do they worry about what is going to happen to their businesses or how they are going to make a living? They never worried about those things before. Do they worry about crime and looting? But living off of stolen wealth is a way of life for them.

The welfare state--and the brutish, uncivilized mentality it sustains and encourages--is the man-made disaster that explains the moral ugliness that has swamped New Orleans. And that is the story that no one is reporting...instead, the reporting is about artificial race issues and otherwise politically correct crapola that those not capable of self-responsibility cling onto with unstinting ferocity for fear of being exposed for the lazy bastards they are (yes Wildonion, people like you who still cannot face reality).
