a couple things I wonder about

L

LADY-VIA

1) I have a friend who has a bit of a gambling problem... so he banned himself from the casinos... but he has learned that eventhough he is banned he can still get in !!!! All they do is regester your car liscence plate.. so it get scanned if you go into the casino parking lot then security is alerted when u try to enter.. however if you just walk in or park your car away from the casino you are allowed in !!! He has gone back several times and lost money each time. So Im wondering why do they give you an option to bann yourself for you own good, but then make it so easy for you to get back in ???

1) they pump oxygen into the casinos to keep you alert late at night.. well there are thousands more people inside metro town all rushing around christmas shopping, and the mall is so stuffy.. so why dont they pump some oxygen into the malls so we can have a more comfortable time shopping.. with out having to step outside to get a breath of fresh air ????? or at least limit how many people are allowed at one time.. so it doesnt feel like your are entering a mad zoo... these two things I mentioned above would make shopping so much more plesant.. :)

this is their way of disencouraging the shopping addiction disease

I'm not sure but i remember reading in one of the local papers that even if you win a large sum of money now, & you've banned yourself, that the casino has the right to deney paying you out? Not sure if anyone else has heard of this?
Unfortunatly it sounds like your 'friend' might need counselling.

I guess the short answer is that money talks, and casinos don't have a lot of motivation to turn down money. Plus if your friend is just walking in and not using their parking lot, how could they enforce it anyway? Casinos don't take ID, do they? I know they don't in Vegas, and they don't in Edmonton.

A few years back I think someone tried to sue McDonald's for making them fat, and that lawsuit was thrown out because, the argument goes, it's not like that person didn't have a choice. I would imagine the same argument could be used here, if it went to court.

Yeah until they go to some sort of ID swiping system, kind of like Barwatch downtown, it would be pretty hard. With hundreds of people walking through the door each day, its kind of hard for the staff to recognize someone whose picture they saw at some point on a poster or email.

Alternatively, he could walk into each casino is town, and do something that would get him banned, like urinating on the carpet or get caught cheating.

Even pumping in oxygen won't make me shop in a mall, I get walk-rage in those places.

Except west Edmonton......I can't wait to go there again (January!!)
As therapy you should go to Metrotown the last shopping day before Christmas!! ;)

It is so they can pay lip service to behaving responsibly with customers who "have a problem".

It sounds good in their promotional/lobbying materials.

They don't really give a damn about people like your friend.

Exactly, they just want his money. It will take government intervention to bring in some sort of system like I mentioned above. Of course, an ID swiping system to get into a casino would not make the gangsters happy at all, and who knows how much influence they have in high places.

Considering the shit storm it would create if it was found out if there was some kinda funny business between gov't & organized crime, i'd say there's not much influence.Maybe at a lower level? Amongst the people that work in the casinos. We all have mortgages & credit cards to pay off, so i could see some sort of shady dealings that way.
Kinda off the subject from the ops question, sorry bout that:p

Theres some underage gamblers recently where werent allowed to keep their jackpots. So i hope your friend doesnt play those games with huge jackpots. Or they wont be allowed to keep the jackpots. Also a friend who works survelleinance told me they do a facial reconition scan every few hours. So if your friend walks into the casino right after a recent scan. He or she can gamble for hours before the next scan and wont be caught.

What casino game or games is your friend addicted to? If they can't stop, maybe tell them to learn how to play poker and learn bankroll management.

Her friends should play bacarat where there's only 2 options ...50/50. They'd still lose with the commision but might keep their losses to a minimal compared to other games

I have banned myself before. I had my photo taken, had to show i.d, and had to sign the paper work. It was explained to me that if i was caught in a bc casino i could be fined and would not be eligible for any payout....c'mon only a plate # ? That sounds like bs to me .

Nope, there is also tie, and on some tables, dragon bets. Dragon 7 EZ-Bac tables have no commission.

And there is a specific involved system to drawing the cards, which changes the odds. It is not like both sides (banker/player) draw always two cards each or three cards each. Where there is commission, the house takes 5% or all winning "banker" bets, changing your winning ratio again.

While the odds are better with baccarrat, it is one of the most dangerous games in a casino, where folks often have the biggest losses. Bets range from $15 to $1000 per hand with 70 hands per shoe. Folks have lost homes and businesses with this game. One can also win very big, but eventually the house advantage comes into play.

Talking about the average casino, the next biggest losing game is roulette, followed by blackjack.

I am told that the safest game is poker if you know how to play it well.
