61 days until May 19...Huh, you say. Well on that date the US, under the great leadership of Bush2, will have been at war against terrorism (dating back to Sept 11, 2001) the same number of days as between the bombing of Pearl Harbor and V-J Day. Can our great leader wrap this whole thing up in less than 61 days? Surely, he is a much greater leader than FDR. Probably not. Iraq, and whoever else, is so much stronger than Germany and Japan in the early 40's, right?

The problem with the 61 day scenario is that it requires a nuclear bomb and nuclear bombs do not selectively target only the guilty.

Dremok...you beat me to it. W being the passionate conservative has elected not to drop the nuke like we did on Japan.

SFMike, I am surprised that you would want W to emulate the WWII approach. But maybe we should consider your suggestion.

Really dumb comparison

Hey, SFMike, I hate to rain on your parade but WWII was a "conventional" war (albeit ended with unconventional weapons, namely the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki), and nothing like the current war on terrorism. I think you actually probably realize this, but wish to stir the pot.

By the way, the number of days comparison is also factually flawed. I hate to point this out to you, but World War II started on September 3, 1939; not December 7, 1941 (the Chinese were fighting the Japanese as early as 1931, too). Also, other nationalities played "slight" roles in defeating the Axis...such as Poles, Czechs, Russians, British, Indians, (yes, even) French, Dutch, Belgians, Norwegians, Danes, Yugoslavs, Greeks, Australians, New Zealanders, and even Canadians!

Also 50-60 million people died, the majority of them being non-combatants. Given the historical context, the current war has been one of minimal civilian deaths and general destruction while the terrorists have taken a royal shelacking...(40,000 out of 50,000 Taliban died as did a fair chunk of Al-Qaeda). Given these facts, Bush II is performing brilliantly....this surprises me as much as anyone (I'm right wing, but not a fan of any particular politician anywhere...and I think Bush comes across as a rube...but if he succeeds like this more power to him).

I have to say, if the results of the war on terror are put in context FAIRLY, Bush II looks even better, not worse than FDR.

Also, FDR interned many thousands of innocent Japanese-Americans, men, women, children, and old folks (young Japanese-American men responded at the time by enlisting in the US Army and distinguishing themselves as one of the best American infantry units that fought against the Nazis in Europe...much like the Tuskeegee airmen). Bush II takes a lot of flak about Gitmo, but when you compare his actions to FDR's, he really doesn't seem like the right wing freak of the two. In fact quit the opposite. I don't recall reading about FDR visiting Japanese-Americans after Pear Harbour, but Dubya was right there in a mosque urging Americans not to take revenge against US muslims not 10 days after 9-11.

Personally, I say "Who gives a fuck." if liberals hate Dubya and Michael Moore can make him look like a dumb-ass....the facts are much more flattering.

Go read a history book or two...once you've got a grasp on that subject, you will be far better prepared to discuss politics intelligently...no offense.
