New technology, but there are concerns about heatlh and safety of the new 5 G networks?

Instant access to current 4 G networks, My current 4 G phone does all the data and texting I like. Why would I need 5 G? I don't stream movies to my phone, I can always download any song from my computer...

I don't have phone tech to run my house lights or temperature; that just wasting electricity ( eg. phantom energy- tv off, but ready to turn on by remote control). Ever see the BC hydro add on tv, the light turn off ap..... its a phantom energy user.....

5G looks to be expensive for an already functioning network. Because of the shorter wavelength, the signal attenuates quickly hitting buildings. More transmitters would be required. 5G looks to have minimal if any Canadian components. A drain on the Canadian economy and balance of payments. Every network has to have a "back door" for the manufacturer to develop the program and that "back door" is in a nation with a spotty record of privacy violation and extremely hostile attitudes about attaining income from any unethical source.

Wauwei in Ottawa buys $0.00 product from Canadian Suppliers. It's a design Centre that in a previous life was a Nortel campus.

It's true designs can have a back door. Same applies to the auto industry which uses many micro control modules. Tesla has implemented software upgrades OTA while your car is parked in your garage. Backdoors have been common place for years. Similarly with smart home devices. If you don't have a robust firewall on the network, be assured hackers can get in. I read an article long time ago saying most homeowners never change passwords on any devices connected to the net.

I'd say China most likely is using the worldwide OEM's like Wauwei to gather data via a back door.

Not like the CSEC doesn't already tap every Canadian phone call and unencrypted form of communication. Or all the Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Homepod Devices. Or your social media accounts, AIs reading your emails, location tracking on your phones.

Honestly, most people don't have much privacy.

The arrival of 5g could mean providers would have to offer more data for the same price. It gets pretty ridiculous when the second one goes over their measly 5gb limit, providers see that as a billing opportunity or an excuse to throttle the connection. I just want to be able to sit on Skytrain and watch a movie to and from work and not have to forgo rent for the month to afford it.

Huawei is a Chinese Company, but it is not the only company that is trying to advance 5G.

In Canada even at 4G, customers are being over charge for their data plans...

Some years ago their were new bandwidths opening up in Canada, and some US companies were interested, they did not get the bandwidths, the collective might of the big companies in Canada squeezed them out. Mostly to prevent competition, which would affect their profits.... (just my opinion on that)

Most people pay about 50.00 for Canada wide text and phoning (possibly more). Data is extra and come in at about 50.00 for 5 or 6 gigs of data. that is about 100.00/ month for phone and data package. It should be about one third that to 1/2 of the 100.00 for both data and phone....

For extra data, some people use their cable (like shaw or rogers) on wifi for data when in an area where there is wifi coverage. Cable is another 100.00 to 200.00 dollars a month (depending on the service you get).

If 5G is going to be more expensive, I don't want it. But eventually like everything else it will become the standard and we all will have to pay the price of the 5G.

With Canada wide texting and phone, as long as I text or phone someone that has the Canada wide text and phoning; its very cheap. Long distance from one area code to another is past. Its going from country to country now for long distance; but even then you get plans for the US is case you go down there, (roaming charges).

Commuting on buses, trains, yes you want to watch movies or do work/assignments on your laptop etc... on the cheap, but most people prefer to relax at home and watch a movie etc...

We can do amazing things with computers/phones for productivity, but its not cheap to do so. You need access to data, and that's not cheap. You either pay on your phone or cable and that is 100 to 300 per month.
