Crazy. I doubt this $5.50 "head tax" could put a dent into their 14 Trillion Dollar debt.

Even though it applies to air and marine travellers it won't be far until this fee is placed onto drivers of automobiles.
And it won't be too far down the road when that "Head Tax" skyrockets to $500 per head. Hmmmm.

They've been charging a "processing fee" to commercial vehicles for twenty years, the original justification was upgrading there computer system. They should be using a cray super computer by now not the windows 98 piece of shit they use! Just another money grab, always surprised Canada Customs never jumped on the bandwagon!

I don't think you have to worry about that lenny, you're not exactly the type of visitor they are looking for.
Yeah the US laws and practices re prostitution don't make them friendly to pooners or sex tourists, unlike places such as Thailand and Germany. Add to that the high costs of getting some there and it's a no brainer to go elsewhere.

We are already paying fees for travel to the USA. We are paying for the Homeland Security from Canada to the USA, additional fees the Airlines had to pay which are passed on to us etc etc.

Me thinks its time to hit US travellers to Canada with a $100 fee to supplement what we are already paying.

I just heard on the radio that our contribution will benefit the USA treasury $100M the first year alone.

BAck in 1995, the last time I was in Mexico...they had a departure fee.....payable in USD only.....I think it was $12 or $20 or something.....haven't been there since...but not for that reason.

Flying Bellingingham to Vegas...

$300 out of Bellingham
$850 out of Vancouver....any idea how much of this is taxes and fees from out own government?

Ohhh and I don't have to pay the $5.50 because I'm driving across the border.
....................but I bet no more canoe trips to Point Roberts........................

I often get much cheaper than that from Bellingham.

I was thinking of using my airmiles onetime to go to vegas, you still pay taxes.
It was actually more to use airmiles, than fly out of Bellingham.

Even when I am flying to the eastern states, I will always check Bellingham first.
To NY from Seattle. It was $90 extra to fly from Bellingham, to Seattle, then onto NY, the same flight roundtrip.

I travel all over the states, and this $5.50 will never come into effect.
Maybe on a work trip.

I guess lots of Canadians do fly to the states, however no one who lives in the lower mainland should.
