For a year and a half, Anne, a 53-yo interior designer, truly believed she was in a long-distance relationship with Brad Pitt. Over months of online exchanges, scammers posing as the Hollywood star managed to swindle her out of €830k.

It all started in February 2023 when Anne, vacationing in the Alps, joined Instagram for the first time to share photos with her husband and daughter. She was soon contacted by someone claiming to be Jane Etta Pitt, the actor’s mother. “You’re the kind of woman my son needs,” the stranger wrote. Anne began receiving “exclusive” photos and fell deeper into the scam.

The faux Brad Pitt avoided calls but sent Anne AI-generated videos to convince her. The deception escalated when the scammer proposed marriage. Anne divorced her husband, received a settlement of €775k, and quickly transferred it to the scammer, who claimed to need urgent funds for kidney cancer treatment, supposedly blocked from accessing his own due to his “divorce” from Angelina Jolie.
