Meanwhile, TMX Westridge terminal increasing crude shipments headed for China. And talk yet of dredging below Second Narrows to allow ships to carry to capacity. On the surface the whole thing looks to be balancing a loss of crude sales originally going south. But better than steep discounts at $30 to $40 per barrel the States got. Trump asserts a $200 billion subsidy per year for, I imagine, military. Carney doesn't want to come out and say $200 billion for defence against a world America brought to a boiling point where Canada may or may not have had a role in defining.

I never voted for carney because I thought he could change trumps mind. Trump is insane and will do what Trump does.
I voted for carney because he’s calm and he’s an economist. He thinks before he speaks. I believe he can do great things for Canada with or without Trump. If Carney can get him to relent on tariffs, great. If he can’t, then he’s got ideas to lead us to not being reliant on USA. Trump himself doesn’t matter because Trump will do what Trump does. Pissing Trump off will do nobody any good.
It’s why even if I was conservative, I couldn’t vote for Pierre. Pierre is negative, rude, abrupt, and hotheaded. The opposite of what we need on the world stage.

There is all this media about Carney being bowled over by Trump, and that he caved because he did not respond to Trump’s provocations. Carney was tested for sure, and although I did not vote for him and remain seriously concernerned about his and his wife’s WEF agenga, I thought he played it well—realizing that reacting to Trump and pandering to the fight skirmish rhetoric expectation was a no-win game. The “some real estate is never for sale” was exactly the type of respectful Canadian solidarity mike drop we need.
I am totally OK with Carney picking his jabs against a bully. Sincerely hope he is like the humble/capable GSP of politics.
For me, this was a win. Going visceral and getting Valenski’d would have been a loss. Huge difference between aligning interets and kissing the ring. No...much more assertive and make a case for continuing to use Canadian products in a meeting that would be televised worldwide. He did not do that. Videos were not heavily edited or biased, just focused on key areas of the meeting. Trump spoke for over half an hour..Carney et al sat there meekly and spoke for 3 minutes. Obviously he didn't have to do much thinking.
If you want to see biased coverage of the meeting all you have to do is watch government supported CBC or CTV stanning for Carney.
The key of his campaign was ...ELBOWS UP! A STRONG VOICE TO STAND UP TO TRUMP!. So tell me where was that strong voice in that meeting? He was trying to flatter him most of the time during his 3 minutes of speaking regarding his handling of border issues and world trade.
If PP had behaved like that YOU and most of the characters on this thread would have been calling him a sellout to Trump and you know it.
All I know is that two years from now my money would be on Carney's popular support being even lower than it was for Trudeau once he starts putting his net zero climate initiatives and internet censorship initiatives into motion and returns some version of the carbon tax. I don’t understand why you want him to go to a meeting and pick fights? His not reacting at all to Trump is a sign of strength. Nothing about that meeting was meek. Carney showed humor and restraint.
Trump talked for 30 minutes because Trump rambles. Carney doesn’t ramble. Everything carney said was what needed to be said.

And you also realize that what we watched was a question and answer meeting with reporters. The actual meeting was behind closed doors without reporters. You can find a transcript of that somewhere. I think one’s been released. But the actual meeting was not televised.
I agree. Carney had absolutely nothing to gain by getting into a confrontation with Trump, like Zelensky.
I think other countries and their leaders are realizing how to best deal with Trump. To his face, praise him and tell him what he wants to hear to stroke his ego.
Behind the scenes, try to find the adults in his administration (hard, I know), and try to find compromise to move things forward.
Once I quieted my ego and became an active listener instead of an avid conversation jumper I've learned a lot. I already knew what I thought so no need to repeat it. In a group setting some are unsettled by my observing and listening. People seem to enjoy pontificating, as I did at one time but not so much now.
