A friend of mine has done a lot of reading and research on this subject even travelled to the ruins because he was so interested in Mayan culture.

He says the Maya were out by 15 yrs and that it already happened on Dec 21, 1997

Apparently there is no need to worry about 2012 and an end date

I find it hard to believe that the most accurate and knowledgable keepers of time who have ever lived on this planet were "out by 15 years" on their calculations for what they believed would be an event that ended time as we know it.

They kept a short count (260 day) ritual calendar (consisting of 13 months of 20 days each) for religious and ceremonial purposes as well as a long count calendar of 365 days. The latter was comprised of 18 months of 20 days each (360 days) plus five "nameless" days at the end of the calendar which were believed to be a very dangerous period during which disasters of all kinds were possible. Thus every day of the year was actually two different dates, one for the short count and one for the long count. Every 52 years, these two calendars would each complete a full cycle and a new cycle would commence, providing their gods deemed them worthy of another cycle. Such were their unparalleled skills in the area of astonomy that the Mayans also kept a daily calendar for Venus.

I've been aware of the date December 21, 2012 for a decade now and as we draw closer and closer to the day, there is considerable speculation about what may happen then. Much of the current speculation points towards the Mayans possibly having predicted a pole shift. There have been documented pole shifts in earth's history but they are exceedingly rare events. One type of pole shift entails a shift of the magnetic poles only and is why the true North Pole and the Magnetic North Pole are not exactly the same. The effects of such a pole shift, depending upon the speed with which it happens, would likely not be very disruptive to life on earth. However the other type of pole shift, known as a geological or axial shift, is a different kettle of fish altogether.

"A geological or axial shift in which the Earth’s crust literally slips around its molten core – like a loose peel on an orange – altering the positions of land masses with respect to the planet’s rotation on its axis. This could happen by a few degrees or by many degrees. Antarctica could wind up at the equator and Miami could be the new North Pole. The effects on our civilization could be devastating."

Other speculation about what the Mayan end of time portends is that December 21, 2012 will be the date when mankind masters time travel, rendering the very concept of time meaningless and thus "ending time".

There is a lot of fascinating reading material on the internet on the Mayan civilization, by googling either "Mayan civilization" or "Mayan calendar". The release of Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto", about the Mayans, will also increase public awareness of their predictions, I'm sure.

The reason for the debate is because we don't know where to start from it has nothing to do with the Mayan Calendar being innacurate. The beginning date was when the sun was in Zenith at Izapa and the end date is 1,872,000 days after that event. Apparently being able to understand the Mayan calendar takes years of study.

I also thought Apocalypto was quite good

Only 6 years left to Poon

Here's a thought provoking read:

http://www.greatdreams.com/2012.htm

Everything I've cross-checked on other sites has been accurate.
Wild shit.

That could mean I have only 6 years left to Poon!

And to top it off that is my birthday.

Better get planning. Anyone out there want to celebrate Dec 21st, 2102 with me and have what could be our last time to have sex. We could plan a whole day and if it doesn't turn out to happen, well we'll at least have had a great day preparing for it.

Please PM me if you want to book Dec 21, 2012.
Thanks

Shit!

And here I thought I only had to put up with this bullshit for 6 more years. Frankly I wouldn't be all that put out if the world came to a screeching halt within the next 15 to 20 years. I'd get to check out before I had to worry about getting old, having to wear diapers, false teeth, etc.

I don't really know much about it and I'm defintely not qualified to argue or debate the matter, it's just not a subject that interests me, I guess I'm like Gravitas.... I wouldnt be all that upset if the end of time happened in 2012 :D

I talked to to my friend earlier today and he said there's no alignment between the galactic equator and the sun at winter solstice 2012 and that it already happened on December 21st 1997

Is he right? Hell if I know :D

He gave me the URL's for a few different sites that explain his viewpoint

Heres one of them Mayan 2012

Winter Solstice Animation 1992 - 2020. How to understand the Star Map: The line which goes top left to bottom right is the Galactic Equator. The Sun starts slightly to the left of the Equator at the time of Winter Solstice in 1992 and at Winter Solstice 1997 reaches alignment. By 2012 it's 15 years past alignment, and the disc of the Sun moves completely off the Galactic Equator by 2020. [The horizontal line is the Ecliptic and the other features are nebula which lie in this area of the Milky Way].

Funny, That is the same year the Canucks win the Stanely Cup!!! Too bad no one will be able to see it happen or have a parade.

Dammit! If I know for sure that the world is going to end in 2012 then I won't even bother with RSPs anymore. Just take the money and poon it away or buy a new set of wheels.

The Mayan stuff is way cool - thanks for the link. But I don't go for the crop circles. Just crap circles to me. Did Nostradamus say anything about 2012? That dude had some wild weed!

Done and written down in my datebook.

However this means I have to come out of a 6 year retirement to see you.
Ok I'll take it slow and easy with you, not that I'll be able to get it up fast and tear out my frustrations on you by that age.

*sigh*

Humans have been "predicting" the END OF THE WORLD (loud booming voice, if you please) for thousands of years. In fact, the Russian Raskolniki once calculated the date of the Armageddon to occur between the years of 1666 and 1691. Thus, when Peter the Great instituted the Julian calendar in 1699 he was seen as the "Antichrist" simply because he was trying to bring his country up to par with the rest of Europe. Just one sample of many.

What would be really mind blowing is if people would actually stop waiting for the end to come, and basing their beliefs upon such an event happening, and instead embrace the fact that if the Anti-Christ hasn't come by now after all these thousands upon thousands of years, he isn't likely to. Honestly, so much can be learned by knowing history.

Just to be sure

Just in case, I still want my appointment with Avarice. One can never be too sure.

Avarice - if you are still watching, are we still a go for Dec 21, 2012?

Thanks
