Well my friend and I were out last week and went to Penthouse. I ended up seeing a woman named Kamilla. She sed that she was new to the MP business and used to do escort service in Calgary. Well she gave a pretty good message and then had FS. Her on top and then I got behind her. Anyway this was my first time for FS. I have had a CBJ at wildrose before. Well after the session I a strange feeling over me and started to get paraniod abt STD's especially AIDs. The FS was with a condom and it didn't break or anything. But since this was my first time I guess I just got scared since I have never done something so risky before. Has anyone else had a reaction like this before ? Do you think I'm over reacting ? Please some experienced pooners reply. Thks Pepper....

A calculation can be as follows. Let us assume the estimate many use is correct that the risk of transmission is roughly one in 200 per episode of unprotected sex with an infected partner. Let us assume 95% protection from the condom for the sake of argument, or a twenty-fold risk reduction. This would give a total risk of one in 4,000 per episode of protected sex.

:: Will condoms always protect you? No! Latex may have microscopic voids or holes, which may allow the passage of bacteria and viruses that are smaller than sperm a way of escape.
:: One study of married couples, in which one partner was infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, showed that 17% of the non-infected partners caught the virus while using a condom for protection.

I clicked on the source link and did not find the same conclusions. You may be referring to the selective inclusion (used by the Catholic church) of the studies conducted by the FDA on the possible transferrence of micro organisms across the latex boundary. Viruses, ten times smaller and in fifty times greater concentration than would be found in semen, were were use to determine diffusion rates through condoms. Out of 400 individual condoms from multiple suppliers, diffusion (at the Limit of Quantitation) was identiied in one case. This has been taken by the politically and religiously motivated as 'Condoms are not safe' when the evidence really states otherwise. The WHO supports the FDA evidence, with the important caveat that incorrect use of condoms could be contributing to the spread of ALL STDs. I personally feel that your statement was irrisponsible. To take any scientific evidence at face value and call it fact (like the BSE debacle) without peer review and recognition undermines societies efforts to mitigate the effects of the infection.

Lets laid out the risk then, not a single condom manufactor say that their condoms when use correctly and consistently provide 100% protection against STD, why is that?

lets just say that condoms are 98% effective for the sake of argument. Also assume the risk of transmission is roughly one in 200 per episode of unprotected sex with an infected partner. There is a 50-50 chance that your partners are infected.
The risk is calculated as follows:

0.5 * 1/200 * 0.02 = 0.00005

This is the chance that you will get infected even if you used a condom. The possibility may seem small, yet someone always wins the lottery whose chance of winning are even smaller.

Risk

I do not dispute your assessment of the risk, it is sound and stands up to scrutiny. However, that was not the basis of your earlier discussion where your assertion was that latex would not prevent the transmission of HIV. That is now being used by the Catholic church (which I left a long time ago) as justification for NOT using condoms in the developing world, where they need practical help right now

Selective use of science and the understanding of that science remains a subtantial tool for politicians. Bandying unsubstantiated facts around and doing the 'MSU' (making stuff up) dance perpetuates that
