Most cities that have a vibrant sex industry have a red night district. :)
Vancouver is one of the frontier pooning cities in Canada, so where is the red light district?
Here's ranking according to my opinion:
1. Richmond - (Numerous asian independent, micros, and massage parlours)
2. Downtown - (Where most high class escorts located, but lacks asian sp and massage parlours)
3. Joyce - (Many asian independents and micros, however, lacks top class escorts and massage parlours)
4. Metrotown - (Good in terms of variety, but lacks quantity compared with joyce and richmond, and lower in quality compared with downtown)

There's been some top notch independants and agencies over the last few years in Burnaby and the Metrotown area. And there are definitely some not so great and not so classy amongst the quality found Downtown :)

Burnaby is a smart area because it is central to all areas of the Lower Mainland. ;)
Really? I agree that some sp in Downtown are terrible, but is there really some great sp in metrotown? I thought high class clients only like downtown or the westside..i could be wrong

Vancouver used to know how to run a red-light district. Back in the day.

Red Light Neon: A History of Vancouver's Sex Trade
by Daniel Francis (Author)
" So begins Daniel Francis, BC's leading popular historian, as he explores the colourful and ultimately tragic story of prostitution in Vancouver. He writes: "The city's political and social leaders consistently have treated prostitutes as pariahs whose presence was tolerated, sometimes exploited, but never approved. All the while, the authorities collected millions of dollars in fines and licence fees from businesses that everyone knew were, and are, fronts for the sex trade."

"Sex workers have never lacked for customers. What they have lacked is a secure place to conduct their business. A vast off-street sex trade flourished while police, at the urging of politicians vowing to purify the city, concentrated their attention on the comparatively small number of street prostitutes who worked out in the open. Because they were considered a nuisance, these sex workers were hounded from street to street and neighbourhood to neighbourhood [... These efforts salved the conscience of the morally righteous, but each attempt to discourage prostitution simply forced women to work in increasingly dangerous circumstances." The end result, ultimately, was the tragedy of the Missing Women--murdered sex workers from the Downtown Eastside--and the sensational criminal case that followed.”

IMHO, if Vancouver were to seriously consider a RLD, they'd have to have smarter folks planning it out than we have in government today. Amsterdam has "some" good elements, and I only mention it because inevitably it will come up as a model for a RLD, but having seen it with my own eyes (while on a tour that was not related to the hobby)... it struck me as profoundly lacking in so much more.

Over there, the idea was more to secloister the trade away, to keep it penned in. There doesn't seem to be much thought towards looking after the women, protecting them from harm, or even to help the desperate ones out of wherever they are finding themselves.

It was actually kind of disgusting and heartbreaking to see.

Let's see if the City of Amsterdam will succeed in slowly converting their Red Light District into a fashion district for their upcoming fashion designers. Gee! It's like being a tourist there and deciding whether to watch " Devil in Miss Jones " or " Devil Wears Prada " in my hotel room. Personally, just allow the Red Light District to be free. By 2050, you never know what global warming is gonna do to the city anyways. Something to do with low tide/high tide. :)

You don't name a project 'Red Light Fashion District' if you want to get rid of the red light

They are reducing the RLD, not removing it... the reason is that it expanded outside of the limits originally inteded by the project when it was started. This is just the city reclaiming real estate that it needs/wants for something else.

Have not province
Near Montreal, there are strip clubs in the middle of nowhere or in farm fields that offer full service and whatnot. However, the very same farm fields or "middle of nowhere" for the lower mainland are in the so called "bible belt".
