Winnipeg bathhouse fire arson: police

Arson was the cause of a deadly fire at a Winnipeg bathhouse that killed two men, police said Tuesday.

Steven Yablonski, 23, and Robert Clark, 62, died in the Oct. 11 blaze at Aquarius Bath House, 457 Notre Dame Ave.

A Winnipeg police spokesman said Tuesday homicide investigators are now leading the investigation.

This seems to have turned from a horrible random tragedy, into an unspeakably horrible hate crime. Another display of why we can't be complacent in defending the rights of the lgbt community. There are violent extremists out there, even in Canada, and the mainstreaming of prejudice gives them a veil of legitimacy. $0.02

I agree, too bad it's not that easy. I've heard that the owner of that place was mixed up with some bad people. Not sure if it's true but possible.
The tragic death of two innocent people is terrible. I hope they catch this / these people who did this.

Homophobic/anti-sex maniac is what came to mind first, but you could very well be right, it could be crime/debt related. Actually I suppose it is more likely than my idea. Either way, hopefully those responsible spend a couple decades locked up.

The same owners operated the Alexander/King street bathouse for many years and that one was virtually burned to the ground in 1999. (As I mentioned last time.) The person who did it claimed it was a revenge crime citing that he had contracted HIV/AIDS there. That's also a possibility in this case.

Just because it happened in a bathouse doesn't mean it was simply gay bashing. Debt/organized crime or simply revenge are also possible motives here. You'll notice that Adonis has never had incidents of this magnitude yet these guys have gotten it twice in 10 years.
