I'm confused

I saw on the tv tonight that Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland and is to be extradited back to the U.S. to finally be sentenced for having sex with a 13 year old girl when he was 44 but the news showed all this outcry over his arrest and protests for setting him free.

He pled guilty then fled the country overseas to avoid sentencing then hid in France for like 30 years but from the news it makes it sound like its perfectly ok for a 44 year old man to have sex with 13 year old girls.

Also Know As

A GOOF,SKINNER,And a man who should have his penis and hands cut off and thrown into general population to get beaten to death..My 2 cents..A man knows what is right,At 13 or even 17 girls dont fully understand what is right or wrong! That is the one thing I am most against in this world.

Sex crime conviction

In 1977, Polanski, then aged 44, became embroiled in a scandal involving 13-year-old Samantha Gailey (now known as Samantha Geimer). It ultimately led to Polanski's guilty plea to the charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.[26]

According to Geimer, Polanski asked Geimer's mother if he could photograph the girl for the French edition of Vogue, which Polanski had been invited to guest-edit. Her mother allowed a private photo shoot. According to Geimer in a 2003 interview, "Everything was going fine; then he asked me to change, well, in front of him." She added, "It didn't feel right, and I didn't want to go back to the second shoot."

Geimer later agreed to a second session, which took place on March 10, 1977 at the Mulholland area home of actor Jack Nicholson in Los Angeles. "We did photos with me drinking champagne," Geimer says. "Toward the end it got a little scary, and I realized he had other intentions and I knew I was not where I should be. I just didn't quite know how to get myself out of there." She recalled in a 2003 interview that she began to feel uncomfortable after he asked her to lie down on a bed, and how she attempted to resist. "I said, ‘No, no. I don’t want to go in there. No, I don’t want to do this. No!", and then I didn’t know what else to do,” she stated.[27]

Geimer testified that Polanski performed various sexual acts on her[28][29][30] after giving her a combination of champagne and quaaludes.[31]
Charges and guilty plea

Polanski was initially charged[32] with rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14, and furnishing a controlled substance (methaqualone) to a minor. These charges were dismissed under the terms of his plea bargain, and he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor

Roman Polanski is a child molester and has avoided this charge for over 30 years, I am glad they finally caught him.

Samantha, the girl in question, still doesn't think he should be charged or face jail.

To me what he did was wrong period.

Having said that criminal sentences are normally impossed to punish those who hurt others. In this case if the lady in question doesn't want him jailed and she feels she hasn't been harmed, then let bygones be bygones. The guys in his late 70's, he not going to do it again, and he has paid a heavy price for his actions, albeit he never lost his freedom, but he did loose his freedom to travel.

Of course the flip side of the argument is those that flee for a long enough period of time, are skirting justice if they are made to serve the sentence impossed.

If the female is 44 and the boy is 13 it's totally ok and the most she'll get is a slap on the wrist, if the 44 year old is a man he will get a life sentence.

Sex with a 13 year old is bad, but that issue was resolved in 1977 with a guilty plea.
The issue is Polanski's flight from the sentencing hearing. Hard to blame him when the information about the judge was finally made public. Reject a plea agreement for no time and then impose 50 years? Ridiculous. Read it here:

Also, there is a basic disconnect in linking the punishment to the crime after 30 years.
Oceanic is correct.

While sex with a 13 year old is never "all right" and Polanski should be punished, there were a lot of shady things going on with this case.

I dunno, only in America I guess. Everyone is more worried about a stat. rape that took place

willingly 25yrs ago than they are in the financial rape of millions of people when

Bear Stearn's, Lemans Bro's, Washington Mutual, Freddie Mac were "naked short shared"

into the ground (counterfeit shares sold as real). 100's of billions were stolen and the

American Government even knows who did it, but they have money and power so its okay.

I think we have a lot bigger problems than one stupid sexual adventure to put the efforts of

law enforcement into. Just my thoughts.

Polanski plied a 13 year-old girl with champagne and qualudes. She was alone with him in a house with no way to leave. He forced himself on her (non-violently) despite her objections. He had vaginal intercourse, then - out of fear that he might impregnate her, he had anal sex with her, to completion - ejaculating inside her.

As much as there may have been misconduct on the part of the sentencing judge, I find the agreed sentence offends my own sense of justice.

I guess it's an open question as to whether he has suffered enough with the loss of career opportunities etc., but if I saw him on the street, I'd at least spit in his face.

I hope they get him back and sentence him appropriately.

I wonder if the fact that the victim is, in part, coming to his defense, is attributable to being let down by a justice system that somehow made her feel complicit in her own rape.

I don't think I'll be able to eat for a long time, I have such a sense of revulsion. Can you tell that I have a daughter?

actually, for the time frame, I imagine if an older woman had been sexually abusing a young boy, it would've been written off without a thought by anyone the boy tried to tell. In a social worker and legal sense, taking male claims of abuse by women is a relatively new thing on the scene.

I recall that CBC did a special on it, and the men that were on there were incredibly damaged people... but, at the time, people dismissed them or told them to enjoy it. Basically, these guys were made to feel that if they weren't enjoying it, then there was something wrong with THEM.

Nowadays, the understanding of the sexual predator and their victims is much better.

He was 44 and drugged and raped a 13 year old. He should be hung. End of story.
I fully agree with this sentiment. Its disgusting. He completely misused his power. He probably did it to many other girls.

Quite often, when it is a case of this kind of arrangement, the victim feels responsible and guilty, especially if he does something nice for her after, by making her a famous model. It was an absolute disgusting abuse of power. I do not believe she was the only one he did it to, just the only one brave enough to press charges.

Lets remember that he was a photographer for Vogue, to a teenage girl that is a heady thing. Lots of innocent young girls would be probably terrified to even tell anybody. It is manipulation to the billionth degree, and a disgusting abuse of power. Good for her for having the guts to stand up for whats right!

I totally agree. I'm certain this wasn't the only young girl he raped. He even said himself that it's natural for men to like very young women. He's sexually attracted to girls and no doubt he satisfied those desires. The fact that he had to use booze and drugs to get her cooperation shows that he was determined to have her. I don't for a minute think this was just a lapse of judgement but the work of an obsessed man who got caught.

A bunch of actors and film makers are speaking out in support of Polanski.

Now, maaaaaaybe they would have a bit of a point, but....

Their spokesman is....

Woody Allen.

No, it's not a joke. It's true.

When I was 13/14, I had many older men flirting with me. Cute harmless, flirting that made me feel pretty. It is normal to be attracted to youth, vitality, and innocence. At 13, most girls have the bodies of women (I didn't, but all my friends did), but the mentality of children. At 13, I was so shy, I'd stutter if a cute boy talked to me. I wanted to play tag, climb trees, and sneak cigarettes to prove I was grown up.

It is wrong to drug, abuse, manipulate, penetrate, sodomize, any woman against her will. It is wrong to do that to any woman of any age. The difference between doing this to an adult woman and a child, is the extreme power imbalance. I am not disgusted with the attraction to young women, I am disgusted by the acting on it. I once broke up with a guy when I was 25 because he told me his last girlfriend was 17 and they had been together for a few years. He was 33, so that means she was 14 or 15 when he was still in his 30's. I probably taught that guy to lie about that piece of information, lol, but I could not get past it.
