I would like to ask everyone to Write to their Federal MP and Provincial MLA to STOP THIS NONSENSE!

I see where the NDP is coming from, they don't want criminals wearing body Armour thus it should be Regulated, only Security, police etc.

But you're also taking away the right of law abiding citizens to protect themselves from the Criminals with the Illegal gun in his pocket.

It's a double edged sword, by letting one have it you allow the other to as well.

However look at the bright side, whenever we hear about "The person was shot but was wearing body Armour, however is not cooperating with police" We can be glad that medical money is not being spent patching up Mr. Scum bag in the ER. Those doctors will be able to spend their time with real patients.
If you have a legitimate reason to be wearing body armor you CAN get certified or licensed or whatever to do so. People with certified death threats, CEO's visiting, licensed private security etc. I don't see why any "law abiding" citizens outside of these or similar categories would need it. I think people just like to complain. Try wearing body armor for a day, you'd rather just hide inside.

So, I guess it is legal to have, you just can't buy it in BC anymore without permission from the police/RCMP...

Hmmm, Alberta here I come! :)

Not illegal but sales and possession will soon be regulated.

Better Laws
The Province will vigorously pursue the federal government to make changes to the Criminal Code to make sure those who commit gun and gang crimes aren’t released on bail and serve the jail time they deserve. We will continue to urge the federal government to make changes to federal laws so that police are freed from burdensome paperwork and given the necessary tools to conduct modern electronic surveillance on those involved in gang violence and organized crime.
The Province will also work with ICBC to ban registration and insurance of modified armoured vehicles. New legislative powers under the Motor Vehicle Act will allow the confiscation of vehicles carrying illegal weapons.
A new licensing regime will be implemented for the sale and purchase of body armour, including criminal record checks.

Does this imply that for people who already own bodyarmour, they will be allowed to legally keep it?

I seem to remember that there was alot of controversy about the families of US troops buying personal bodyarmour for their family member that was better than the stuff the government provided, called "Dragonskin" or something to that effect. So it must be available somewhere.

Thanks for the link, but from how I understand that it will be legal to posses the armor if you already have it before the licensing comes into place...?

Better get some quick then BC gangsters! :p

Keep in mind that that article wasn't talking about what the Federal gov't had said they would do. It was talking about what the BC provincial government WANTS the federal government to do.

My guess is that the feds are going to tell BC to go take a hike because the only federal party that wants body armour and bullet proof vests made illegal is the federal NDP and we all know how much power they have (laugh).

I doubt that the federal gov't will do anything about body armour or bullet proof vests except to impose stiffer penalties if you commit crimes wearing them.

I'm sure the BC government also wants the feds to ban handguns, they have a huge list of things that they want. They won't get them.

And remember, criminal law is federal so the bc gov't has no real say in the matter.

Well they certainly made it difficult to buy a vest in BC now, no one will sell them to anyone (Unless your LEO or something)...

A timely thread

I had been thinking of a body armour .. I know i am just a escort driver.. But i one never know when ypou may have to step in front of a knife or gun to save one of the girls or just to save your girl friend .
I has been dream i have had for some time .. and i thought i better get the protection just in case it come true..
I better start looking because it sounds like it will be hard to get a hold of.

Honestly they can ppass what ever law they want it wont stop criminals from getting any of it ... that is why the are criminals they don;t think the laws apply to them.. The only people that get get hurt by these stupid laws are the ordinary citizen . who may be a little paranoid but would like to get some protection from the inviorment that that around them.
i know with my ex girl friend .. .Knowing some of the people that she knew.. Murders . drug dealers .. gun runners and the like .. i honestly was considering getting a gun, and wearing a bulilt proof vest.. just so i could protect her if any of the passed came out of the wood work and knocked on our door.
Now as for down town victoria some time i wish i had one on.

There are still places that sell the inserts for sure. I have a stab proof vest and recently upgraded to a ballistic vest.

Wearing them for 16 hrs on a hot day is not alot of fun , add a few blocks walk in with it and you'll be thinking this is not such a good thing. Not to mention the chafe sores.

Well I found a guy who will take care of my needs with regards to a vest. I fully agree with mick_eight, the only people who will suffer with this are the law abiding citizens...:(

But hey, thats how the Government works right? :p

Just for ther info of retired tourists

If you come accross the Canadian Border with a weapon of any sort it will be taken and you will be charged. I worked on the Truck crossing for two years. Also if your a US citizen taking weapons accross state lines without a US Federal Firearms permit you can be charged by ATF.

Vests are still legal to have but I wore one for years and they suck they are hot and uncomfortable but in combat they are a comfort.

You can make your own at home... I did!

Just a quick question, after Jamie Bacon was shot in Abbotsford a private members bill was proposed (and passed I believe) to make it more difficult to purchase a vest in BC. Does anyone know if it is actually illegal to possess one (not in a crime obviously  ) in BC? Before you post "why would you need one, are you some sort of gangster or something?" just don't. I have my reasons...:) Blondes can be dangerous! :p

Does anyone know? AFAIK you can buy them online or in Alberta, as well as in the States.
I took a regular vest from Mark's Work Warehouse.. and I took some egg cartons and sandwiched them together with sand in between then wrapped them in 3 layers of saran wrap to keep the sand in. Then I add some pieces from about 3 old bicycle helmets and made little tiles out of them. They add an extra layer for absorbing kinetic shock.

I haven't tested it of course but I wear it out under my jacket when I'm downtown and I don't take shit from anybody... I'm pretty confident that a guy who pulled a piece on me would have a big surprise if he thought he could take me out! :)

We need them to protect us from the gun and tazer happy rcmp.
I,m going to Columbia next month and also Medillin where is a tailor who makes designer suits and leather jackets etc. that are small caliber proof.
I may buy a designer vest just because.
I,m no gangster and dont really need but never knows what world situation will be in couple years.
Good to be prepared.
Should not be illegal to protect ourselves.
