Luongo giving up 7 goals!!! Guess we will save some money next year if we are able to sign the Sedins - they had their moments but we just could not keep up with the Hawks. I think Game 4 was the tough one - if we were able to hold on . . .

Demitra - signed for another year and he needs to stay if we have any chance at signing Gaborik. Mind you - Minny has new management so no guarantee he will be coming here. Mason Raymond played pretty well on the second line as the replacement.

Sundin - pretty obvious that he will definitely will not be back. Can Cody Hodgson can take this spot next year? Not sure but my gut tells me that the replacement will be better defensively plus we need his cap space to sign the Sedins.

Kesler - must re-sign to an extension. Future captain if Luongo goes elsewhere.

Sedins - losing this series cost them some big bucks but they will most likely get 6 million per year since they did play decent in the playoffs.

Luongo - if he does not sign an extension - he will be traded (like to his hometown Canadiens who have plenty of cap). Another issue is salary - can we afford a top tier goalie who is not playoff proven. He is better than Khabibulin who makes the same 6.75 million but that is more than the combined salaries of Osgood, Cam Ward, Tim Thomas and Jonas Hiller.

Unrestricted Free Agents - Ohlund (3.5), Pyatt (1.6), Cowan (0.725). Problem is that we have 13.75 million tied up next year between Bieksa (3.75), Mitchell (3.5) , Edler (3.25) and Salo (3.5) so pretty sure Ohlund will not be back.

Restricted Free Agents - Bernier (2.5) needs to sign for less and Wellwood (1 million) is not quite the prototype 3rd line defensive player but worth it for the PP skills.

I hate to bring it up but Luc Bourdon would have looked much better than Ossi Vaananen. Other than Hodgson - not sure what else on the farm will be ready (i.e. another Kesler or Burrows).

Why would they take a chance on another injury prone player? Think about what the Canucks would have to give up to get him. Make 2 holes to plug 1?

If you think Cody is just going to come in and set the league on fire, you're going to be a sad little boy. He hasn't even seen the ice yet, so counting on his junior numbers to translate to NHL numbers ain't gonna happen. He was drafted 10th in a weak draft year, hasn't filled out yet and will be a deer in the headlights if you just throw him onto a 2nd line in the NHL.

Kesler - must re-sign to an extension. Future captain if Luongo goes elsewhere.
Leads by example on the ice as far as work ethic goes, but nobody knows what his attitude is like with his team mates, nor if anyone will listen to a word he says.

They played decently against a weak St. Louis team. Seabrook and Keith shut them the fuck down big-time!

Correct me if I'm wrong, does he not have a no-trade contract? Why would the Habs want him when they have invested in a goalie they believe will do well in the playoffs compared to one who has not?

Unrestricted Free Agents - Ohlund (3.5), Pyatt (1.6), Cowan (0.725). Problem is that we have 13.75 million tied up next year between Bieksa (3.75), Mitchell (3.5) , Edler (3.25) and Salo (3.5) so pretty sure Ohlund will not be back.

I see the Canucks letting go of any one of those 4 before letting go of Matias. He stepped it up and was a rock in the playoffs. Who else in that list did?

Restricted Free Agents - Bernier (2.5) needs to sign for less and Wellwood (1 million) is not quite the prototype 3rd line defensive player but worth it for the PP skills.
Wellwood was never listed as a defensive player  He has always been ann underachieving goal scorer. In a watered down NHL, Bernier will get 2.5 mill easily.

I hate to bring it up but Luc Bourdon would have looked much better than Ossi Vaananen. Other than Hodgson - not sure what else on the farm will be ready (i.e. another Kesler or Burrows).
The difference is, is Luc would have cracked the Canucks line-up this year, Ossi did not, so not a fair comparison.

has anybody realized that osgood is going for his 4th stanley cup? maybe the canucks should think about building a fast skating team that can last 60 minutes in front of their multi-million dollar goalie.

the formula seems to work in detroit.

If it were that easy, would Detroit be who they are?

What About the Coach ???

Splitting Kesler/Burrows thing was an act of desperation that just happened to work. Assuming Sundin will not be back - looks like we are at the same position as last year - we need second line help. He was out-coached against the Hawks.

ANYONE would rather be in Detroit's situation than these crappy canucks...I've said this many many times; this is an over rated team, hyped up by the media, homers, and canuckleheads...

time and time again, I've used Detroit as the benchmark.

Even san jose, with their early playoff exit, they're regular season standouts; these canucks weren't even supposed to make the playoffs.

enough said.

Whew, now I can rest at ease at these bandwagons fans, all jumping off now....

Vancouver needs to lose the Sedins - they are highly overrated for what they do...

Luongo needs to stay, but remove his captaincy.

The Sundin experiment will hopefully be over - let me man retire in his mediocrity...

And Gaborik? Seriously? The man may be a decent hockey player, but he's a bum steer - always hurt. No thanks....

Luongo Has No Trade Contract

I am in agreement with many of BHJ's rants (especially the one where CH fans wanted to play the Hawks in the first round). Not to digress - the only person in control here is Luongo since he has a full no trade. His cap hit next year is 7.5 million.

Assuming the Sedins re-sign at 6 million each and with our RFA (Wellwood, Bernier, O'Brien) and a backup goalie - we will be close to 50 million in salary leaving us with say 2 million for some 2nd/3rd line player. We will need some cushion to avoid what happened to Calgary (maxed out) and they could not bring in any injury replacements.

might as well cheer for the Hawks

Some one correct me if I am wrong. It seems that the hawks have 20
canadian players on their roster. That is more than any of the other
american teams left in the playoffs

Out of the skaters who played the last game - only 5 were not from USA or Canada. Mind you - they each have crucial roles - not just 4th liners.

and you too Hubba...

and he is absolutely correct...

the only other hockey market that is absurd is Leaf nation...

Vancouver and Toronto, both have center of the universe mentalities when it comes to their hockey teams...

Sort of like you and your hockey opinions  Why you think that universe exists up BJH's ass is beyond me
