well, if you didn't do anything wrong then put the fucking knife down and explain. you may be wrongfully cuffed, but you won't be dead.

generally speaking, making threatening gestures to those holding guns is not a wise idea.

for all those that said the police should have subdued him with other measures are missing a very important point - when there is a risk of life it's gonna be yours not theirs. you can quote "to serve and protect" all you want, they have families and the desire to live as well. if you think you are about to be shot by a police officer, try to not give them a reason to do so. who knows, you might live.

So you're saying that the call they got was about a different car thief than the one they shot?

Love how the media would translate that into 'they shot the wrong guy'.

I wonder if the OTHER car thief, the one they got the call about, would have been stupid enough to come at one of them with a knife.

See, there, you can totally blame the cops. Of all the crack-heads breaking into cars, they tried to arrest the WRONG ONE and THAT one was the one who was dumb enough to try to attack them with a knife.

It's all the fault of the police, if they had been able to pick out the specific crack-head car thief that they were supposed to, they wouldn't have shot that particular crack-head car thief...

Uh huh...

No they got called about a car theif. The tip that the police got was a guy wearing a black backpack... sure enough the guy that was killed was wearing a black backpack so... it was kind of a wrong person at the wrong time kind of thing i guess.

OK first I should point out that nowadays we need a thread title a bit more specific than "Regarding the shooting that occured in Vancouver," I mean come on, that could refer to about a dozen different incidents over the last month or so.

As far as the cops going after the wrong guy, I honestly don't see how it makes a shred of difference. The bottom line is that the cops approached a guy (who turned out not to be the guy they were looking for), and when approached by the police, he pulled out a knife, and ignored their requests to put it down. They acted appropriately. Well, other than taking that cellphone and erasing the video. That's completely indefensible, and should result in severe disciplinary action and/or criminal charges of tampering with evidence.

If you are having a hard time understanding this shooting, I really don't think becoming a police officer is in your best interest or ours :p As the others have said, you do not go at a cop with a knife and you put it down when instructed to. The cops make mistakes but this wasn't one of them. The cop who took the phone should be in deep sh*t though.
I'm not having any difficulties as regards of understanding this shooting. I totally agree and I have stayed with my point from the beggining that what the Police Officers did was totally understandable and the correct decesion. The point of these threads that I created is that I wanted to see other peoples opinion about this other than what the media has created and what the witness's had to say.

In the end only a criminal would pull a knife on a police officer let alone be carrying one in the first place so the person the cops stopped might not have been the right one that they were looking for in the end but he was obviously a criminal and up to no good otherwise why the knife and why pull it on the cops.

Stuipidity is not an excuse

He pulled a weapon on a cop which makes him a douch bag criminal and he didn't drop it when told which makes him a a stupid criminal and he lost his life and I hope the cops double tapped him in the chest and put one in his forehead for good measure.

Reverends charges for protesting the extridition of the BC 3 dropped
Category: News and Politics
Today the Crown Council in Reverend Adam Smolcic's trial ( the founder of the Marijuana Awareness Initiative) was forced to seek a stay of proceedings in the matter due to lack of evidence. In the fall of 2006 Rev. Smolcic was allegedly seen writing propaganda such as Free the BC 3 and No Extradition of several police vehicles parked between the Provincial Court House at 222 Main st and the ajacent Police Station. Rev. Smolcic was vilently arrested and refused medical attention and after the incident he filed a complaint against the arresting officer who did not show up to court today. At the Court House after the hearing Rev. Smolcic stated he was still going to go ahead with his complaint and possibly seek damages from the city.

To see the photos of the Police cars bearing the "Free The BC 3" check oput the Free the BC 3 album in my photos
and apparently the guy lived at belkin house, which is also a federal parolee halfway house - http://www.csc-scc.gc.ca/text/pblct/...4/29-eng.shtml

Hmm, interesting. Doesn't necessarily mean he's lying, but it does cast doubt. I guess we'll have to wait to see if anything gets recovered from his phone.
