If you've got a gun out and someone is approaching you with a knife, you can shoot him or you can let him slash your arm and get your gun.

your choice.

I'd pick shoot him.

You ever wonder why a cop with a gun on his belt isn't particularly interested in 'wrassling' with some crack head?

What do you think the crack head is going to grab first? Duh...

Oh wait!! I know, they should make all cops martial arts wanna-bes and take away their guns so that the crack heads can't grab their guns while they impress them with their bruce-lee style karate yells.

(yes, yes I know... I know.... geez... dumb-ass)
Like Korea? They teach them there, atleast there police arent taser happy chicken shits.

Nah I just get a kick out of the crap that comes out of your mouth.lol Then again if you spew half your crap in public you probably are best if you do have a couple black belts lol Anyone can get a black belt if they want as you're not even in real fight situations when you get tested. Hell there are kids out there with blackbelts lol Doesn't mean they're going to beat a guy with a knife or anyone for that matter.
Well if you want me to shut up then find just one building that collapsed at free fall speed. If I'm so full of shit then it should be easy to find. Until then, you are a jackass.

If you're going to make an argument that is so remote that it can't hold water unless you have substantial evidence to back it up, then at least know the fucking difference between there, their and they're...because it really doesn't further your cause any.

When comparing cultural differences of police reactions to similar situations, you should bear in mind things like...oh, I don't know...respect for human life, like your mythic police officers in Korea. Show me a tactical procedure guide from the Seoul Police force that says that an officer should disarm a dangerous, knife-wielding homeless man, possibly on serious drugs like crack cocaine with some complex Jujitsu moves, and if not you're a stupid windbag troll.:p

Let's just say that what you say is true, do you think their commanding officers care about the longevity of their own officers if they're going to send them out to dangerous situations with very strict conditions to diffuse situations where their own officers have a higher risk of being killed, out there in the field (that was a grammar lesson for you LIGHT-bearer, all in one sentence so you don't lose focus with a PM from Alex Jones)? I think not. Any commanding officer with some integrity and self-respect will stand behind their men if they resort to the proper choice of force, and in this situation it is lethal means for a lethal threat. It is just pure irresponsibility to expect less given the various dangerous scenarios that could have resulted had this outstanding member of the VPD made the decision to use a less than lethal force. The FUCKWAD wanted to kill her! Get that through your bone-dense head! Was his life worth more than her's after he pulled that shit? NO!

Hand to hand combat fantasies like you watch on your tube every Saturday night on the Bruce Lee marathon with ITB's granny is just that, fantasy!

Maybe what you should be doing is taking advantage of student loans and getting a higher education and spending the weekends getting free pooning advice from Bostich. Yes, he's more intelligent than you are and writes better reviews than you do!;)

Until then, stop trying to pretend that you're a martial arts experts because the same experts on this board know a lot more than you do and really just made you look like the moronic, simpleton pushover that you really are.:p

Much less, stop being an idiotic armchair critic of the very police force that keeps your stupid ass safe!

What are you, 14?!?!?

Six dead as police clash with protesters in Seoul

By Kwang-Tae Kim, AP

Tuesday, 20 January 2009

Police commandos stormed a vacant office building occupied by displaced tenants in central Seoul this morning sparking a clash and a blaze that killed six people and injured 23, authorities said.

A team of 100 commandos raided the five-story building in Seoul's Yongsan neighborhood early this morning by landing on the roof in a shipping container to break up a protest against a redevelopment plan for the area, Seoul police said.

The commandos and some 1,400 riot police were mobilized for the faceoff against some 40 people who had been camped out inside the building for days, officials said. The protesters were tenants and small business owners pushing for better compensation from construction companies redeveloping the building, a tenants' rights group said.

The protesters fought back by hurling Molotov cocktails at police and out the building's windows, police said. One of the burning bottles sparked a fire on the roof that engulfed the building within minutes, sending flames and black smoke shooting into the sky, the cable news network YTN reported.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about an hour, authorities said. Several dozen people inside the building were evacuated and 28 people were arrested, police said.

Yongsan Police Chief Baek Dong-san said five bodies were found, including one police officer. Seoul police later said the death toll stood at six dead.

One of the dead was the former owner of a watch shop who had been forced to vacate the building. Another was the manager of a now-defunct restaurant, said Kim Jang-ki, a member of the Tenants Association who said he knew both men.

Baek said six protesters were injured, with one in serious condition, while 17 police officers suffered injuries. He said one other police officer remained unaccounted for.

President Lee Myung-bak ordered a probe of the incident. Investigators were at the scene today, with hundreds of riot police blocking the entrance. Residents left white flowers outside the building.

Prime Minister Han Seung-soo called the incident "extremely unfortunate" and expressed regret over the deaths.

"The government will thoroughly investigate why and how this has happened," he said in a televised statement. "We will uncover the truth, leaving not a single dot of suspicion."

Police had earlier said the protesters were squatters who had been occupying the building since yesterday.

The tenants' association said the protesters were employees and business owners unhappy with plans to redevelop the area in the heart of the South Korean capital. Many of the dilapidated buildings in the neighborhood have been torn down to make way for new businesses, real estate agents said.

Molotov cocktails were a common feature of the pro-democracy protests in South Korea in the 1980s but are rarely used against police today. Paint thinner used in the makeshift explosives may have helped fuel the fire, Baek said.

Tuesday's clash was one of the most violent in recent years between police and protesters. South Koreans took to the streets last year over the government's decision to reopen the market to US beef but no one was killed in the near-daily protests.

Basically a summary of two issues:
1) Police shot a guy wielding a knife, and refusing to submit.

2) Another cop supposedly took video evidence and erased it.

My take:
1) It's kinda like the people who goes skiing out-of-bounds, gets lost and eventually dies. Hmmm.... whose fault is it? The Mountain (police) giving ample warning (telling the guy to drop the weapon) or the skier (man who got shot) who ignores the warning signs and skis to places unknown (believes the rule doesn't apply to him).

If cops used physical attack (unarmed or with baton), what if one of the cops gets killed or severely injured. There will be negligence on the police for not ending the situation sooner with a gun/taser
Even if the officers aren't injured, but they bashed the guy's head.... you don't think that the criminal will be hiring a lawyer to sue? All those anti-police advocate groups will be championing this guy as a victim of police brutality.

If the cops used pepper spray, doesn't it affect a wide area? So all those passer-bys and people watching will be suffering from the pepper spray.... you'd bet the city police will be getting lawsuits up the ass.

If the police used a taser, they'd be labelled as incompetant people testing out a "new toy" on an unwilling individual.

If those officers used their firearms.... "should have used a taser"

2) Anytime the police tries to destroy evidence.... throw the book at him.

When did I say DISARM. I said pepper spray and hit his legs or body with the baton whatever works. And if your "threatened" when your wearing armor, gun, baton, pepper spray, by astapler or small knife then maybe you shouldn't be a police officer. I know you worship police but wow....

Well said festealth. I would add that if the cops in question had been equipped with tasers (which they were not), a taser would have been the most appropriate response to the situation. Since they were not, a gunshot to the torso was the most appropriate response to the situation.

OK, I know you have only a passing familiarity with reality, but please, I'm still waiting for you to explain this. Your plan is to use pepper spray, which is known to frequently fail to incapacitate or do anything other than enrage, on a knife-wielding man, and then close to within lunging range in order to hit his legs with a baton. How exactly is this supposed to be a safe thing to do? Oh, and I forgot the part where you back up, while checking over your shoulder.

Once again, with such fantastic combat advice I'm sure we all believe that you've got 2 blackbelts. In fact, you must be a ninja. And possibly also a pirate.

If he advanced within 10 feet move back, 1 officer can draw there firearm the other can draw the baton or spray. If he keeps moving, showing signs of agression, not a confused old drunk guy. If he was we dont know. If he keeps advancing, spray him in the face. Then you have to step back or inhale OC. He still advances slowly or agressively baton him in the face. If hes swinging the knife around so you can't get close then shoot, hopefully for the legs. There were 2 officers and a 50 year old homeless man. If she was by herself then shoot.

LOL! Here we get another explanation that shows absolutely no understanding of how fast these things can play out in real life. Sure, in an ideal situation in which you've got all the time in the world, that would be a good response. Well, actually no it wouldn't, because there's a massive glaring flaw in it that anyone with any real experience would have seen.

You say that if he advances you hit him with the baton, only shooting if he's swinging his knife so you can't get close. Ignoring for a moment the fact that it's already too late for you to make the decision about whether to use your baton or your gun (or are you relying on a potentially dangerous man wielding a knife to give you enough time to drop one and unholster the other?), you're advocating using the baton if the guy isn't swinging his knife. So basically, you're saying that the appropriate response is to give the guy an excellent opportunity to lunge at you with the knife. Brilliant. Tell me, did you have to send away cereal box tops to get your two blackbelts? If not, I suspect that your instructors may have trained you wrong on purpose as a joke.
