For sheer entertainment value my fave will always be Grant Fuhr, during the coke years he was freaking amazing. :)

But if I was making a decision for a franchise it would be Brodeur all the way.

You have no idea! I was intimate with his dealer at the time, You wouldn't believe the things she told me.
He did have a lightning fast glove hand though and was fearless in net.
That was the pcp. He thought he saved 348 shots per game :p

I would go with the Dominator myself as the greatest of all time, but between Roy and Brodeur I would take Roy. Yeah, Roy was an ass and Brodeur seems like a great guy, but Roy was never so much of an ass that his teammates wouldn't play for him or stick up for him (like Sean Avery). As long as he stops that puck, that goes a long way in the dressing room. Plus as good as Brodeur's stats are, he never strikes me with that aura of invincibility. I think he's more like someone who's been very good for a very long time very consistently. Like the Ron Francis of goalies.

Im not defending the Canucks. I havent been to a game in years and dont plan to in the future.

Ive got better things to do with my life than sit around like you have emotionally investing in a sports team who whether it wins or loses doesnt affect me one way or the other.

I just think you're a dumbass lowlife repetitive troll with stupid opinions and limited knowledge suffering from low self esteem.

 lol can't we all just get along?

Broduer because of the shutouts, handling of the puck and his style. You don't see many if any stand up goalies in today NHL. That's one thing Roy should be proud of. So many butterfly goalies in the league and not just the French Canadian ones.

As for the one vote for the Dominator, his style is being used fairly affectively by Tim Thomas.

This is a tough one to decide you is better. Both, stanley cup winners, records set, incredible yearly averages, % saves, shutouts etc!!!

They're both incredible world class goalies and 2 of the all time best but I would have to go with Marty Brodeur. He has a great attitude as well.

Yeah thats about the only knock on Roy, lousy attitude. Sad really because it shows in his own kid's antics on the ice. Guy should be embarrassed by that shit.

He's a Lover not a Fighter

I would have to go with Roy as he played on some bad teams and in an era where there was much more offense. Not just that - if there was a bench clearing brawl - who better to be on your team for duking it out against the other goalie? I guess that was one gene that was passed down to the sons.

Now - since we are taking non-goaltending skills into consideration - I suppose you would need to consider Brodeur for getting busy with his ex sister-in-law with whom he eventually married. Here is the link. No - it was not the classic sister-sister as that would be tragic for the kids to call their Auntie - the new step mommy. His new wife was the ex-wife's step-brother's now ex-wife. Basically - it was through marriage and not directly related siblings. Hope that made sense. lol

thought about it a while and I'm choosing Roy even though he's a bit crazy. He's never played for a boring defensive team like NJ has been for many years :D

Guess I should've made it more clear; b/c let's not have his off-ice attitude/behaviour dictate what goes on the ice. I was merely asking by talent alone, who'd you rather have on your own team, if you could start a team from scratch.

I'm leaning towards Roy, simply b/c he's a money playoff pressure goalie, who played on 'inferior' teams relative to Brodeur's tight defensive systems, yet he needed to make the big stops when he needed too; mind you, he only average sometjhing like 22-23 shots per game; think Roy faced good quality chances in his era, prob. 30+plus shots a game.

Here is a good link from ESPN that discusses the very same subject.

There are very compelling reasons for both goalies but I would have to pick Roy as he is more of a clutch playoff goalie and amassed a lot of wins when the playoffs had best of 5 rounds and also - there was no Overtime rule back then so he could not pad the stats with a Shootout Victory.

Brodeur is a great goalie too but the one thing that Roy commands is fear and respect.

i'm a red wings fan. i've seen my team destroy roy in game 7 (2002) and i've seen my team get destroyed by brodeur. so i guess i have to say brodeur.

PLUS an olympic gold medal doesn't hurt his resume either. something roy shouldn't have passed up on.

Roy or Brodeur? Both have won cups, roy did win the one on one match up in 2001 that went to seven games. Though, there are people who say Brodeur played in a defensive system well that's true. So did Patrick Roy in Montreal for at least during the Pat Burns era. A very tight defensive system. Though, Marty does have a World Cup title and a Olympic Gold medal to boot. If I recall when Canada got whipped in 2002 by Sweeden he came very cool and calm and the team responded they took on his personality pretty much they played more relaxed and with in themselves and his puck moving ability really showed up in that tournament how much he meant to his defense go ask Al Macinnis and Chris Pronger. So I don't buy this big money goalie brodeur theory that he isn't that; game 7 2003 final against anaheim, Olympics 2002 and World Cup 2004. Marty is such a well position goalie I think people underestimate it; well some do. Though, if anyone goes with Roy as the greatest I'm not going to say their wrong in their decision this is a pick'em but, I'll take Marty.
I really enjoyed Roy in the league though, when he would skate out to centre ice to play the puck or try and keep scoring on a open net...lol he would get under people's skin so much hilarious.
