There are a myriad of factors which will affect how sound travels. Depending on atmospheric conditions, geography and buildings, the cannon can be heard several miles away. I live near Grandview Highway and Renfrew. The Grandview Cut is an ideal conduit for the sound to travel. I usually hear the cannon on clear evenings.The Fog makes the air more dense and it therefore transmits sound better.
