Just wondering if cops can post an add up and get you to go to a hotel and then entrap you and charge you for soliciting prostitution? just curious.

not really sure if it's entrapment, police are allowed to provide you an opportunity to break the law. I'm not sure if responding to a craigslist ad is considered in a public place. if the payment negotiating occurs behind closed hotel doors, it's not illegal.

Phone conversations are private, so not illegal.

It is unlikely, here, that LE would go to the trouble of posting an ad like that, when it is easier and more efficient (and has more visual impact) to target the SWs and their customers. They can be picked up for having the public discussion.

I think they do it in Edmonton due to the sps requiring a business license to work; they get the sps to come to them, which is far easier than trying to get clients to come to visit an sp, by the way.

Prostitution is really illegal in the US, lol. (Except Nevada, right?)

Here it isn't. It isn't black or white, or in between, or sting-worthy. It simply is NOT illegal. Negotiating prices and services on the sidewalk is tho lol.

isn't there a difference in legality if the phone call is made from a land line or a cell phone? ie. if the call was made from your cell on your way over, it's not taking place in a private place, the car being public

Don't think so, it would be entrapment on their behalf.
21:8080 "The accused bears the legal burden of establishing, on a balance of probabilities that his crime resulted from the conduct of government officials in entrapping him to committ a crime an average person not predisposed to that crime would not have committed.

In other words, in jurisprudence, entrapment is a legal defense by which a defendant may argue that they should not be held criminally liable for actions which broke the law, because they were induced, (or entrapped), by the police to commit those acts. For the defense to be successful, the defendant must demonstrate that the police induced an otherwise unwilling person to commit a crime. Entrapment is an issue that has to be considered in sting operations, as well as vice operations, especially those involving curb crawling and solicitation. If you're phoning up or emailing an escort, then you are "predisposed" to committing that "crime" and are not "unwilling". The police are allowed to give you an opportunity to break the law, hence a Craig's List ad would most likely not be entrapment. You can however, ask them if they would be interested in some nude modelling. That is not illegal, no money is discussed and NO female cop would agree to do that. If she says yes, odds are she's alright. If she says no, she may still not be a cop, but why take the chance.......

Hope that helps.

The kind of things you see on Cops would never happen here in Canada. For one thing, the prostitution laws are VERY different in the US, where getting caught soliciting a prostitute could land you jail time. Another thing is that Canadian police just don't have the money nor the manpower to conduct such useless stings as entraping a pooner on CL. It wouldn't get them a charge anyway, except for a long shot "being in a common bawdy house" charge which would come with a huge amount of paper work and the risk that Crown council will refuse to prosecute the charge. Crown council, especially in the western provinces want a slam dunk charge, if not they're wasting their time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, quit making assumptions on Canadian law based on US television programmes or news as the US legal system and Law enforcement is surprisingly VERY different. Poon away bro!:)

Only in certain counties of Nevada and surprisingly not Clark County which is where Las Vegas is located.

There is one other state that it is legal but it escapes me and it's most likely similar to Nevada wherein it is legal only in select counties.
