I am trying to find some sort of plactic wraping that I can wrap over a chain so I can wrap it around my neck and pad lock it and myself to a door. I would be great if this materail was insulated because I wil be doing this outdoors in freezing conditions.

I see that certain bike chains have plastic wraping around the chain and would like to get someting similar. Unfortunately the bike chains are not heavy duty enough because the police are bring along heavy duty bolt cutters. Where would I find such materials. Would specialty haredware, plumbing or electrical stores carry this? I tried Home Depot but all they could point me to was insulation wrap for piping.

eh...not sure we can help you on that one. Did you default on your house or something or staging a protest? Isn't there a more safer way to protest?

This is the safe way for me. My buddy wanted to climb a building or highway overpass with a large protest banner. Definitely not within my capabilities.

Have you thought about trying socks? Maybe a scarf, you probably need one anyway, and a toque. :)

You know, I always said you're not totally committed to a cause unless you're willing to support it naked.
Sure I got the Girl Guides against me but it keeps the kooks like you off my case.

Between the legs of a HOT SP!!
Yeah, I suspect that lock is gonna fold pretty quickly under some bad ass bolt cutters. Better get one that is shielded for best results. Otherwise it does not matter what kind of chain you use.

Ummm... I can try and dig up a postive tidbit about the economy if it would help Fudd.

Happily Ever After!
Their used to be a type of bike locks called years ago. U couldn't bolt cut them or saw through them with a hacksaw. The company actually guaranteed it...

I have a Kryptonite if u want it fudd, its covered in rubber. Good for u for doing something instead of all talk no action;) How about those hospital rubber tubes?

Question Queen: Why not wrap a scarf around your neck first, then the impenetrable chain?
That's a good plan, the stuff for rigging to cover chains is meant to protect things from damage not for comfort.

Anything off the shelf wont last longer then a minute or so against an angle grinder..... you would have to drop some serious cash on custom stuff if you really want to stay there.

Thanks for the offer Julia, but I need the flexability of a chain. In case we can't get to the doors befor security gets to us well have to quickly chain up to a column or whatever is around.

The cover is really for comfort. I don't want to be in the freezing cold with bare metal against my skin. And I'll have a scarf covering the chain so that I don't look too suspicious. Don't know what the others are going to do though.

Hey maybe If we make enough noise we'll get on the news again.

A trip to a Wholesaler like Emco or Home Depot will carry PVC tubing. It's clear flexible tubing that doesn't get stuck to skin in the cold. It's used in draining condensate pumps on AC units (I came from a hot climate). You could try this. It's clear, flexible & pretty cheap. Don't get the stuff with braids in it.
I think that may work!! :)

I'll give it a try.

Kryptonite has a covered chain system that you can get at any motorcycle shop. It is a very very strong chain and about 7 feet long. For a cover just go to Home Depot and the sell plastic tubing in various diameters and lengths.

Hmm.. when I saw the title of the thread I actually got my hopes up. I was going to say "Make sure you attach a couple of cinder blocks to the chain too so your body doesn't float back up in a couple of weeks"

Darn.
