I managed to get some sort of infection on my computer. Every 30 seconds sme stupid pop up comes on telling me to sign up for 'AntiVirus 2009' and it has slowed down the computer big time. I probably got it by downloading porn from somewhere. I tried to find a solution online, but all got was info thati is waay too complicated for me. Apparently this problem is pissing a lot of people off. I even tried the simple solution which is download 'Spy hunter' and pay $30 but running that did fuck all. If anyoe has a simple solution please share.

Thanks, I've had the same problem most of this week. Not as bad as Joe described but still a pain.

Go to: http://www.download.com/Antivirus-Firewall-Spyware/?tag=rb_content;contentNav

Lots of free anti-virus/ spyware/ firewall programs that are free or trials. They have all been certified as safe and have been reviewed. I use free Ad-Aware for spyware/adware etc..., free AVG (weekly scan) and paid Norton (active) for viruses, and free ZoneAlarm for a firewall. Make sure you download the right one for your OS esp. if you have Vista.

If you have a crap computer running all these may cause a bit of a drain esp. if you have less than 1 GB of RAM.

They all work great and I haven't had a problem - even downloading porn! ;) Always scan it before you open it and I even download it to a separate sector of my hard drive!

Hope this helps!

You tech geeky escort.

Vmware

Download a VMWARE client and run your browser through that. If you get infected, Windows is not affected..you can just blow away your VMWARE session and start a new one.

Keep in mind you need at least 3 GB of RAM to run VMWARE.

Its easier to reformat your hard drive than it is to get rid of that fucking Malware
Not really. I did this once to kill malware and it cost me an entire long weekend just to reinstall and re-upgrade everything.

Running at least 2 or 3 anti-spyware programs plus a good anti-virus protector should wipe it out.

Freeware recommendations:
Firefox browser (quit using IE)
AVG AntiVirus
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
Ad-Aware

Sandboxie can do the same thing. (http://sandboxie.com/) It's a small program that runs inside your normal O/S and forces your browser (or I think any program you choose) to run in a sandbox (like a VM), intercepting any writes to your hard drive. VMware is great, but the workstation version costs $ and might be overkill.

Don't go to websites of porn that want to run ANYTHING EXE.

While vmware will help.. a better solution is to change your bios to boot cd and get a bootable cd that will scan your hd for viruses.
