Who here has had braces?

Is it a total turnoff when a girl sees a guy with them?

My teeth look good but could look better. I don't know what to do, should I leave them be or go for the braces for the year and a half for the pretty much perfect smile? I don't my game to go downward with the girls at the clubs and etc because of the braces.

I don't know.. Hate to say it, but that would be a turn off for me. It might have been ok if I was 14.. but would now be kind of a turn off for me. Just being honest. If your teeth were bad, it's say suck it up and put up with it for a year and a half, but if your teeth are good... why go through all the trouble. Fuck the braces. They are no fun, it sucks (I had braces when I was 14). But if you do decide to get braces, get the clear ones.

The perfect smile is kind, honest, warm and sincere. Perfect teeth are just that, perfect teeth. Nothing to do with the perfect smile IMHO.

I got braces in my early 30s and had them on for several years (too long!). I was pretty self-conscious about them initially, but the reality was that my attractiveness (or lack thereof) was the same pre-braces as it was while I had them. The girls who would have liked me before liked me with braces, and the girls that wouldn't have liked me still didn't like me.

It's also my experience that a LOT of people have had braces in their lives, and when they see someone else with them on, it's an immediate conversation starter (sort of like having dogs or having kids I would imagine). In the long time I had mine on, I never met anyone who had braces that looked down on a fellow braces wearer. Who knows, you may find it breaks the ice with some hottie

Now that they are off, I'm glad I did it. So as cliche as it sounds, don't let it be a factor in your decision. Do it if you're gonna do it, because the person most conscious about your teeth is probably yourself. Any girl who lies awake at night thinking, "Geez, I'd date the guy if it wasn't for his braces..." is a rarity.

I have to agree there.. If I liked someone I wouldn't not date date him just because of the fact that he has braces on. I just didn't get the impression at he actually needed them and just thought it would suddenly give him a perfect smile, which for me, has nothing to do with perfect teeth.

And if a conversation starter is what he's after, I don't know.. I'd get a puppy instead. LOL

I had them in my late 30's. Was told they'd take 30 months and had them removed at 24 months due to total dilligence and care to maintain fresh elastics 3 times a day.

Had some wear happening that would be quite damaging to my teeth when I got older so invested the $$$$$ and have never looked back.

I always encourage people who are not teenagers when I see them wearing them that they come off sooner than you'd think.

Didn't eat corn chips, jerky or chew gum for two years, so really had to make up for it after.

I had my braces taken off a few years ago. They weren't really too bad at all because I had the clear ones. But it was kind of a pain when there were on both my bottom and top teeth at the same time. Not so much when they were just on the top.

As has been mentioned a couple of times, ask your orthodontist if you would be a good candidate for "Invisalign" braces. They are a series of clear retainer-type appliances that are much less conspicuous than regular braces. The major advantage of them is that you can remove them for eating, hygiene and playing tonsil hockey.

If money is not an issue, go for a consultation with a cosmetic dentist. They can often straighten your teeth in just a few visits, without braces, but you will pay dearly for this service.

you don't need to go to an Orthodontist for Invisalign. Lots of Dentists do them in a regular practise. They will cost you more then regular bands but do have an advantage when it comes to esthetics. They are not for everyone and cannot do complicated cases. If you are interested PM me and I will hook you up with a local Dentist who does them.

I absolutely adore braces. I find them extremely sexy! I have wanted them since I was young. But never needed them. Considered getting them anyways recently!!! Big shiny silver ones.



If someone has a problem with them, its their loss. And braces look better than snaggletooth any day

get them, they do more than straighten teeth.
Mine corrected my jaw, spread out my teeth so I could clean them better.
And be able to floss them.

having your teeth right, will give you a huge confidence boost.

a year goes by like nothing.
