I was chatting with a friend the other day on the lack of common sense some people display and I thought I'd post about a funny (to me at least) incident that happened shortly after going indy.
I used to get these vulgar emails from a man that I always ignored. Generally they included graphic details of what he wanted to do with me, asking how much for this and that, and were just generally gross. He'd always close by saying that this was his work email account and under no circumstances should I ever reply to him via email, and to call him at such and such a time and say my name was so and so.
I never responded and just ignored him, and of course his emails got more frantic and derogatory.
In the early spring I went on tour and left my auto-responder on. I happened to check it one day and almost fell off my chair laughing at the karmic justice.
"Buddy"'s email:
[Usual vulgar content including some nasty names directed at me because I wouldn't get back to him]
My auto-response:
I'm out of town and unavailable.... blah blah blah. ***EDIT** It also included a copy of his email to me.
Buddy's auto-response:
Buddy Smith is away on holidays until .... all of his emails will be forwarded to his manager... blah blah blah.
Funny.... I never heard from him again. I wonder why
Lesson:
Don't use your work or home email or phone number EVER unless it's safe for someone to reply at any given moment
And always be polite
