That is not funny, not in the slightest bit. Disgusting really even if it was meant to be humourous.
Oh gimme a break, the same type people who are treating this like the worlds greatest tragedy, were all willing to trade this guy for a draft pick a couple months back.
If he were some kid racing around on his motorbike, people would be pushing for tougher street racing laws and so forth. With jail sentences or deportation to the drivers.

But hey, this kid played hockey

Bourdon was Foolish

Bourdon was a highly paid athlete. He was a first round pick and with that privilege comes a commensurate level of responsibility. He should not have even been on the bike to begin with. Hypothetically - if he survived the accident and was not able to play hockey for a year or more - how would management and fans feel? Pissed.

This is no different from Kellen Winslow of the Cleveland Browns who blew out his knee after losing control of his Suzuki Motorcycle. He lost millions in salary and set the team back for the year he was out.

Look at Dany Heatley - his teammate died (Dan Snyder) when he crashed his Ferrari and he missed over half the season. I think it is related to the EA Curse for being on the cover of NHL 2004. Atlanta had no choice but to trade him for Marian Hossa and this set the team back.

In fact - the Canucks and every team should place restrictions on activities. No motorcycles, no snowboarding, no skiing or any other activity that requires a waiver. Spend the money on pooning or something else.

You're a fucking dick!

Regardless of who he was and what he did he was a young man with a devastated family that he leaves behind. My heart goes out to his family.

Yes it is a tragedy when someone ,and I don't care who it is, dies before his or her life really begins. He was not just some hockey player but a human being. He had parents, family and friends who I'm sure love him dearly who now are left to morn and grieve his passing. Yes maybe it was his stupidity that killed him but you could at least have a little bit of respect for those he left behind.

GSXR1000? CBR1000RR? R1? ZX10r?

I wonder what type of bike he had. I'm sure someone with his money could write a check for a 08 superbike that cost over 10k. I can guarantee you it wasnt a Ninja 250.

A little perspective is required

While it is sad and unfortunate - his death is no different from other motor vehicle related deaths - except for the fact that he was a professional athlete.

All future contracts will now require a "Bourdon" clause for dangerous activity.

I am sure he was a great kid but the fact is - he bought the bike and he could have chosen not to. Unlike those that are killed by drunk drivers - he had a choice and he made the wrong one.

Thousands died in China (they had no warning and they had no chance) and here we are moping over this ??? WTF.

for people that have been canucks fans for many years, you start to identify with the team and the players kinda become a part of your life. if it was someone from the florida panthers, there would likely be a smaller reaction.

RIP Bourdon

Horrible

Motorbikes are death machines. I personally would never get on one...

It's a tragedy, but in the big picture who cares that he was a pro hockey player. He died a horrible death waaayyyy before his time...

Personally, I don't think jokes are really apporpriate on this thread.

RIP Bourdon.

Wow. I bow to your superior intellect and incredible power of deduction. How can I argue such a brilliant point? You so smart that I will not argue with you anymore. I just figured that his mom and dad were on PERB 24/7 and because they are not, it makes your comments alright. You are right to make jokes about a young man's death and I'm wrong to show a bit of respect for his family's loss. Happy?

I will hand it to you though, you actually make Hubba and ITB agree on something.

I completely support you if you want to make a funny about this story too because these poor soul's familes won't read it.

I am not making jokes about a young man life what so ever.
I am pointing out that is the were Joe Sixpack, 21 years old, killed racing his motorcycle on public street. People would be demanding new laws against racing. Anytime you read about a street racer dying or causing a death, its huge news and people want all sorts of new laws, and punishments for the driver. Yet a hockey player does this, dies, and its like we lost a national hero

motorbikes are not death machines. they are no different than car, truck boat skateboard if used in proper manner.and dont give me the song about if you are hit by someone else. so then if iam hiking and a errent shot from a hunter hits me that makes hiking a death sport. more people should be on two wheels bike motorcyle scooter doesnt matter traffic problems down as well as more eco friendly

where has it said anywhere that he was racing or speeding? now that could be the case i don't know cause i haven't seen that as being confirmed yet. for all you know he could have been driving perfectly safe but the road conditions were not ideal or it could have been the guy driving the truck that was at fault.

making a joke about a young man dying before he had a chance to really live just really shows no class. what next? you gonna find some humor in the victims of the earthquake in china?

TEAM 1040 showed real class today when they refused to discuss how Luc's death would affect the canucks roster. that discussion is reserved for a later date.

HB - just cut the BS and leave family members out of any thread - especially mothers. BTW - my mom died recently from a painful bout with cancer.

My point was simple - given his occupation and recent history - he should NOT have been allowed to ride the bike. I did not speculate about any hockey related impact on the roster as that would be inappropriate.

The accident was unfortunate and I really sympathize for the family. Bourdon was young, had a promising future and from what a I heard on the radio - was truly a good person character wise. However - since he is a hockey player - it seems that his death is more special than others.

This will be my last reply on this matter so feel free to hijack the thread.
