I don't watch much TV anymore, but I am getting addicted to this show.

I'm surprised, but delighted, to see that the protagonists in the show avail themselves of escort services on a regular basis (well, Charlie anyways). Escorts are added into the plot in a very casual and playful way.

We usually see villains hiring and then beating/robbing/killing street hookers. Or good guys "rescuing" escorts from being exploited. But in this show, we see a Casanova-type rich young guy hiring girls because -- surprise, surprise, he likes to have sex with beautiful young women and not have to deal with all the baggage of a full-time girlfriend.

Kudos to this show for showing regular guys using escorts for fun. Not to dominate women, or because they are anti-social and can't get laid any other way. This show blows away all of the negative stereo types. If you haven't watched the show, give it a chance -- you'll like it.

Charlie illustrates exactly how to act around women - to a general degree. His no nonsense, straight-forward but sarcastic approach to dealing with women is spot on I think. I guess they call it "cocky comedy" - he's the perfect example.

Alan on the other hand - is the annoying idiot who kisses womens asses and wonders why he doesn't get anywhere. He's the "nice" guy. You want to just reach through the TV screen and strangle him sometimes. D'oh! I put Raymond (from Everybody loves Raymond) on the same level of wussyness as Alan. Alan's only funny because Charlie is the polar opposite. One big reason I never got into the show ELR - Raymond has no backbone, and it's too pathetic to watch!

I quite enjoy the show as well, at least, I really loved the pilot where they move in together (fricken kid at the poker table was a riot).

They just need to reduce that stupid kids role in the show
less and less of him, would make a really cool sitcom

charlies awesome, and he;s got the cocky comedy part down pat when he is with Alan; however, I find him to be a goof around women sometimes.

Alan on the otherhand.....there is no hope for him (yet he still gets a hottie here and there). i wonder if there are men out there like him

By far...

The best episode was when Alan hires an escort and she ends up giving him the money back because he is so pathetic. And he is happy because he got to second base for free. Truly one of the best written shows on TV.

It's the kind of show with something for everybody: nerds, kids, grandmothers, brothers, neurotics, sex addicts, boozers, etc. Everyone can relate in one way or another to the comedy. Excellent writing, too! With lots of reruns, you can watch it a few times a week. :D

I like how it both satirizes and celebrates male perspectives on life, women, what have you. Charlie and company have their victories but also get their comeuppance from time to time. The caricatures work well within the framework of the show and everyone's dysfunction (be they male or female) is presented with a certain, gleeful humanity. I wonder how much acting Sheen actually does on the show - he seems sort of type cast - but it works. I'd have to agree that it's well written as far a broad comedy goes.

Jake had one of the best lines of the entire series.

Jake , Allan and Charlie are sitting on the couch when Jake asks his dad "What's erectile disfunction?"
Allan starts to babble, Charlie cuts him off and says to Jake "Why do want to know"
Jake replies " The TV says one in three guys have and I know I don't, so one of you do"

I still laugh everytime I think of that.

I try to watch the show as much as I can. Unfortunately, I tend to be catching only the repeats. I always get a chuckle. Charlie Sheen is very similar to the Charlie he portrays on the show. I think this further adds to the show's appeal.

I just hope the show doesn't get cancelled. As far as Charlie's brother, I call him still "Ducky" from the 16 Candles Days, well, he needs to put on some weight otherwise he looks like he's gay...not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)

I didn't catch that until I read your post. Him and Molly Ringwold in that 80's movie. I learn something new every day.
