I suggest you, panther and d_duck do the same. The National Use of Force Framework is a good start.
That's hilarious coming from you. You're the one who wants to REDUCE the number of force-level options that a peace officer has!

But heck, whatever cranks your tractor. I can't be bothered to take the time to teach you why a couple more options is better than a couple fewer. Look it up yourself.

That's not the issue here. The issue is yours and others ignorance of the use of force framework.

Hint: Zapping someone for failing to comply with an officers request is not on there genius.

LOL! If you plan on teaching make sure you know what the f**k you're talking about next time.

You don't. Which is why cops shouldn't have them.</I>

Smacked in the mouth by your own words! I'm sure you have a recipe for crow lying around. Partake and enjoy!

You can't even remember something you wrote or day or two ago. Who's the genius now?

Wow! You sure got me.

The post of mine you initially quoted was about yours and other lack of knowledge on use of force. My stance on tasers is a separate issue.

Try again.

Get one of these and zap the transit cops before they get you :D
That's hilarious CJenn! "FREE holster also included.":D :D

Guys, just ignore Goodkat. He's a well-known troll here as well as on the other board, who often contradicts himself with his own arguments. We went at it good last fall for 9 pages in a similar thread on the police use of tasers. Christ was that fun!:D The guy has NO IDEA what police go through and his posts reflect this.

As for Silky Johnson, he's just an ignoramus and his writing style and arguments certainly reflects this.

Rather, let's put them both on the Granville mall on a Saturday night without a taser, and no access to a taser unit, patrolling the drunks, mental cases and drug addicts and see how long they last. :D I'd give them 20 minutes.

Anyways, onwards and upwards.

See what I mean?

Hey Silky. Run out of crack this morning, or did the cops take your crack pipe away?

FYI, I don't take transit. But if I did I would pay and if I didn't have a ticket, I wouldn't run away like some crackhead with Silky Johnson tattooed on his ass.

Now go away little man

Right! And you never know if someone has asthma, so cops shouldn't have capsicum spray. And who knows HOW many people have social anxiety?! Cops shouldn't be allowed to speak harshly to them.

Should cops be allowed to use CN and CS gas? Those are tear agents, and they can cause vomiting, choking and even death for people who have respiratory problems.
Don't forget those folks who suffer from bad joints and those suffering from ankylophobia, so arm-locking them is totally out of the question.

Others are extremely high on drugs. Have you ever witnessed someone agitated after a three day coke binge and now is in cocaine psychosis? You'd proabably call the cops. These people will not listen to any commands the police give them and they will NOT go peacefully. Best option IMHO is to shoot them dead, to protect the lives of officers and the public and be rid of another drug addict. But because we have so many bleeding fricking hearts in this country the police were introduced in 2002 to a less-than lethal means to combat these pilgrims of society. What more do people want? It is by far the best means of subduing people who don't or won't comply. Why is it so hard for people to comply?!?!

WTF, I’d hate to think you are a cop. Feeling you are justified in gunning down someone who has a drug problem. I would run away from you too just because you’re a gun totting nut.

This thread has generated a lot of interest, obviously.

The replies have been, in some cases, very well thought out, in some very passionate, in all they've been sincere opinions making for interesting reading.

What I keep coming back to, as I read the posts, is that if we had turnstiles in the skytrain stations we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I have used many transit systems in cities on 4 continents and I have never seen one run on the "honour" system. It just doesn't work.

Back in the 80's I have to wonder at what the wizards who designed our skytrain system were thinking (or maybe smoking?)

When it first opened the great majority of my trips would be one or two stops.I quickly figured out, why buy a ticket cuz at that time, if there was a fare check, all they'd do is escort you off the train so you could buy a ticket and you could just walk away.In my case I'd be at my destination anyway so who cares?

As the system toughened up somewhat I started paying fares but when there were really no consequences I took advantage..and I consider myself to be an honest person, just yielding to temptation.

I'm not going to weigh in on the taser issue, both sides have been well stated, but my take is that, with better planning,i.e. turnstiles like everywhere else, fare dodging would be a non-issue.

I am also for tazing people who can't spell. SilkyGirl you should buy the new Microsoft Laser Mouse and Taser Keyboard so this webserver can shock you for your shockingly poor spelling and grammar.

Quick, run upstairs and ask your mommy how to spell POSTED.
