Wow. There used to be more hockey talk around here.

Would anyone care to join me in a productive thread that attempts to solve the problems of an underachieving franchise?

1) Stop trying to hold on to a 1 or 2 goal lead with 40 mins left.

2) Get Burke back (ooooh contraversial):D

3) Let Luongo deliver motivational speeches.

4) Trade Cooke...oh wait nevermind.

Just felt like having a little fun with these bums.

Get rid of Nonis. Unfortuately, the Unrestricted Free Agents this summer are brutal...so No-Nuts-Nonis is probably going to re-sign Naslund for 2 yrs @ 4 mil a yr, and Morrisson for around 3 per yr. Then add some lame second line player to play with Naslund and Morrison and put Pyatt on the Top Line.

Personally the only line I like on the Canucks offence is Keslar and Burrows and Pett.

1. Burke did more harm than good with his 'I've drive him to the
airport myself' speeches ... there are lots of ex-Canucks who really
play hard against the team just because!

2. Nonuts IS Burke ... I'd like to see Tambelini take over!

3. Lou should be Captain ... damn rules.

4. Naslund might be back for what the Sedins get paid ...

Smart money would just let Morrison go.

This team could play well (not great, no talent) but well, if the
'big guys' (Pyatt and Isbister) played like 'big men' ... look what
Nash did to them just by using his size ...

I would even go so far as to sit one out every night so they only
play 40+ games so that they can give it 100% every time they
hit the ice ... go to the net and take a beating!

Hell if Nash, Thornton and guys like that can take a beating every
game then there's no reason Pyatt and Isbister couldn't take one
every second game!!!

The other problem is that Veggie won't let his best players play their
best ... its all D all the time ... whatthefuck are we paying top 6 D-men
for if not for defense???

Finally ... Lou has looked weak on a number of shots ... and the fact
that he cannot handle the puck really pressures the skaters to come
back for the puck when other goalies can make that first pass to
the blue-line ...

ps: nucks should have tossed Sanford into the mix to get Richards ...
five points in his first game ... nice ... really nice ...

The Habs are great this year.

Tampa wanted: Raymond, Kessler and Bourdon and Edler for richards.

Florida wanted: a deal that hinged on the Sedins for Ollie Yokinnin...yeah right.

I heard that Canucks offered Bourdon, Cory Schneider, a first round and a third round pick. Nobody in their right mind would give up Raymond, Kessler, Edler and Bourdon for Richards.

Play Linden

Although my post by no means is an answer to the Canucks woos lately, I just have a rant. Coach AV should play Linden more. I don't understand why Cowan who takes the dumbest penalties ever, loses every fight he's involved in plays over Linden. A veteran, who scores almost at will in the Shootout, which the Canucks play most in. He is also a leader and a good penalty killer. Also he brings in a right handed shot. Wake up Alain.

One thing that might work is stop shuffling the lines so much. Why not leave them together. Playing together, and knowing your line mates on a consistent basis allows for chemistry. He throws Pyatt on a checking line and Naslund off the top line.... common...

While I agree Cowan sucks big time...Linden is hardly the answer to this teams problems. Linden = Vanilla

That being said, I would probably put him on a 4th line with Ritchie and some other uesless player.

Well, once again it is the management that has dropped the ball ...

used to be McCaw who was a useless ass but now its Nonuts ...

and Veggie doesn't help ...

but the big problem is the number of players who just don't
have the talent nor the size to make a difference ...

Cowan will be gone and good riddance ... he got a dream contract
for a fluke run and there goes a million!

Raymond may be a decent 2nd line player one day, but not today ...
Shannon is way too small, got hurt, and is too small ...

The only hope (and its a slim one) is that Lou really raises a stink and
the team does get going to put a decent team on the ice ...

otherwise, what a waste ... again.

DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!

The Canucks have a great backend but ZERO scoring and if the Canucks were serious about going to the playoff and digging in for a long run, they would have pulled the trigger to get Richards. Getting Richards showed the West that Dallas is SERIOUS avout winning the Cup while Vancouver is just hoping what they have can over achieve. The Canucks need to do the following in order to be succesful

!. IMPROVE SCOUTING, BIG TIME. They've been better in recent years but are still one of the worst teams when it comes to assessing young talent.

2. Develop a three to five year plan. Get a core of young players, develop them, let them grow and hit their prime together, pepper in a few veterans and vola, a cup contender you will be eg Pittsburgh and Montreal.

3. Dump Naslund and Morrison who in Vigneault's system have little value. Their careers will be revitalized by signing with other teams. I could see Naslund in Detroit and Morrison in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia or Anaheim.

4. REALLY REALLY scout younger cheaper replacements for the previously mentioned players. look in the restricted free agent market as the UFA market is a little thin this year.

5. Maybe, trade up in the draft? It's a good crop this year

I'll be impressed if the Canucks make the playoffs and even more impressed if they win a round. But the usual second round exit is the best this team will do.

GO HABS GO!!!!!

Nonuts better do something this summer in the trade/acquisition front or his job will be on the line. Luckily we have Luongo for another 2 seasons, or he could be ready to pack his suitcase for another city. I think they have to resign Nazzy for about 3M, but they should let Morrison go and fill his spot with free agents. Trading the Sedins isn't that bad of an idea if you can get something worthwhile in return. The Sedins are not playoff worthy, and they always disappear when the going gets rough and tough. They should be the ones stepping up right now, but are nowhere to be seen. The tough teams are on to them (heck, Chicago was on to them), so their fancy moves around the permiter can't penetrate the slot for good scoring chances. What the Canucks need is a good power forward that can play with Nazzy (like him or not, Bertuzzi made Nazzy the goal scorer he was), or another sniper that knows how to get open. The Nucks record in the shootout goes to show that we don't have any goal scorers. What the hell happened to our first round pick (Grabner) from a couple years ago? He was supposed to turn in to a scoring sensation (that's why Nonuts drafted him 14th overall when he was rated like 28th). Hopefully he turns into something useful.

I hope they lose the rest of the way and not make the playoffs. That way we get a higher draft pick. Maybe they'll can Nonis & scrap this entire team. Cant see this team getting very far even if they make the playoffs:mad:

Where was I . I just noticed this thread LOL.
The canucks Must and I repeat MUST get rid of Morrison and Nazzy in the off season. The Canucks will have 15 million dollars to play with in the off season and that does not include package deals that could happen. There's a confidence issue with this team now after the last few game performances. There's no hunger up front from the Vets. Especially on Sunday against the black hawks. Watching paint dry would of been more exciting!!
Loungo has 2 more years left on his Contract and I'll bet Nonis will do something in this years off season.
OUr D line and Goalie is more than Better i IMHO. We need to lose old blood up front and bring in some snipers who can score and no have a single style of playing. Goal scoring is our problem which we all have know for some time. Thats need to improve and then were off to the races.

Again, old horses have to go to improve.

The way this team has played, here's my $20 bet on changes:

1. Naslund gone ... forget about home town discount etc., this guy
has been overpaid for too many years ...

2. Morrison ... unless he takes a major cut in salary and even then
will get packaged to go ...

3. Cowan ... from Brabarian to boob in no time flat ...

4. I don't know if its allowed, but the Nucks will do anything to get
rid of Salo ... too expensive, too fragile, and if they can eat some of
his salary wave bye-bye ...

5. Linden ... it was fun, thanks, really, but bye player, hello coach!

By this point you have nearly $12 million and change to sign some
guys and do some shopping ...

A solid Second Line would be the Sedins with Pyatt ... and they just all
need to put on some size and Pyatt has to keep going to the net.

A solid Third Line can be Burrows, Kesler and Pettinger ...

Shannon, Raymond and Isbister can be a fourth line ...

So what can they get for a top line???

Ya, I agree with you AA on this. This is something no one ever brings or has brought to the table. The scouters for the Canucks is a complete comedy show at best.
How many solid bring ins can the scouts actually tout about over the years?? How many actually rocked and torn down the house!!??

On the other end of the table. The Sad and frustrating thing is that as long as the games sell out and money is rolling in, the power to be will turn a blind eye and always say ---

" we believe in our team and we don't need to make changes"

YA RIGHT!!! This song was finished years and years ago. The Sad thing is that people will still believe this garbage!!

free agents

I'm all in favour of dumping overpaid players and bringing in free agents in the off season - the problem is that the selection of free agents really ain't to good this year. Most teams are locking up their good players. I think you will see Naslund back for at least one more season just because they won't be able to fill his spot with someone worthwhile. I also think the Nucks need to take the C away from Naslund and put it on one of the big Canadian D-men who can lead the team through example. Too bad Luongo can't wear the C.
