Has anybody read the article in this week's sun about MP's being forced to reduce the "racy" content on their websites? It's sad that some people have nothing better to do than worry about other people's business. If massage parlours offend you, then what are you doing looking at their websites?

I sort of feel the same way

the more offended somebody acts about something, the more intrigued they really are by it. Of course, you never can really tell about the bible thumpers. All lot of them talk about morality, but do not live by their own definition of wrong and right.

In my own imagination!!
Personal opinion based on my experiences alone.........

..........The holier than though moralistic "bible thumpers" have more skeletons in the closet than most politicians. You know the saying "...throw rocks at glass houses" Remember Audrey Jensen the anti stripper crusading woman from Stettler years back? Her husband was a super perv. Thats what made her jump on the soapbox. Ha ha IMO

Did you guys hear "The Good The Bad & The Ugly" that Fearless Fred from the bear... said about this particular article. I thought we (ppl in the business) were going to get attacked or have him mention anything to side with those against the porn on the net ....but it was totally not the case at all.

I had to laugh when I heard it. Because the bottom line was....with all the nudity on the net....what is worse....guys looking like idiots when they find themselves at the bar trying to pick up a girl to get the release that they need. Or nudity on the net which we are all aware of that is out there.
love and laughs
April

P.S. And vice came around to our studio and showed our boss an anon. letter written to them. The writer had a problem with my page. Hmmmm so what are they looking on massage pages to begin with....if nudity upsets them. I agree....this is crazy and nuts. I would assume that if there is a disclaimer saying there is adult material on the site then that should be enough to warn any viewer of what they might see.

My POV

I think the main problem April, is that some studios in town (One in particular) pushed the envelope too far with the X-Rated videos and extremely suggestive language. After all, these places are licensed to be only massage studios. Isn't it better to be a little conservative and fly under the rader rather than puting it all out there for everyone to see. We in Edmonton have a good thing going. Let's not ruin it. The last thing we want to see is what happened in Calgary a few years back. Just take a look at their abismal MP situation now.

Don't kid yourself. Bylaw and LE read this board and have known for years what actually goes on inside the MPs, but if they received some complaints from the public, they probably have to act on it.

I agree completely
Its when people take things for granted(the leniency they are being shown for instance) its when shit hits the fan.

I guess if the rules are that mp's can't post pictures with nudity on their websites than those are the rules. However, the rules seem stupid considering someone has to actually go to the site to see it. In contrast to many billboards around town with scantily clad girls advertising nightclubs which are hard not to notice driving around.

It seems strange that out of the blue some do-gooder decided to write an anonymous letter to bylaw about mp websites. I can't be the only one thinking it was one of the other mps or a pooner with nothing better to do than tattle on the competition.

Exactly what I was thinking, some competitor OR it really could have been a member of the real world who was disturbed by the "in your face" style of a couple of mp's.

Well now we got bylaw in out face don't we? :(

Especially since several of the MP websites do have the "18+ only" warning before entering.
I think it just makes people feel differently because it hits closer to home, if you go to a porn site, its not advertising things in your area, or close to your home.

I think if it was a few pictures nobody would mind, I think its the extreme amount/ extreme content of pictures, or the videos that push it over the edge and make people want everything gone.

I don't think fully/almost nude pictures are necessary anyway, as pictures can be deceiving (altered, airbrushed..)and any man would have to see for himself what the girl looked like, naked or not.
A girl in sexy revealing clothing should be able to tell a man enough about what he is looking for. seeing her breasts online I dont think make his decision that much easier.:)

Exactly. Over the years, the majority of studios in town have been very discreet about what they show on their website and how they present their staff, and have been very successfull in the process. Personally I find a lady in a sexy outfit, lingerie or even just a bra and panties more arousing than just showing her birthday suit.

The pictures on any MP website are there to basically give us an idea of what the SP looks like and many times they are outdated, inaccurate or misleading. ( IE: Deja-Vu)
It is always in ones best interest to go meet the SP in person and see if she appeals to you and what type of vibe you get from her.

There IS a line.

I am not saying let's have chicks humping traffic cones on Massage websites, because I agree that is too far. But why is it Art and Photography websites can have nudity all over the place and nobody has a problem with it? But as soon as you put nudity into a massage or escort situation it somehow changes the same pictures that COULD and in some chances ARE on art or photography websites. I think as long as you have the over 18 warning you should be allowed to show the same level of nudity that any art or photography website does with out any problems.

I dont think comparing art pictures to pictures of an SP on a MP website is proper.
Yes, both nude,
both with the same intentions? I think not.
Both advertising sexuality? Yes
The same type ? ..once again, I think not.

I highly doubt there are a lot of art pictures involving girls in santa outfits making out with one another, or girls on sex swings together.
(not a bash, JUST an example, I swear)

Interesting...

You missed my point entirely, because I know of a couple SPs that also model and use their pictures to promote themselves in the Massage/escort industry, while the photographers who took the pictures use the EXACT same pictures on art sites and get great responses to the pictures. The context of the art does not change the art. I think a couple of women in a sensual embrace kissing in a photograph is art in most cases if done nicely, and can be found on countless photography and art sites. I am a fan of photography and the massage industry, so trust me when I say you would be surprised how beautiful some of these ladies can be in some of the great photographic art that I have seen them in. A couple of these girls could make DAMN good money selling prints, I know I would buy.

It seems that most of you are missing the point. This is not about morality or the law or the rules or the content or the context or anything else.

This is about people who want to control other people.

Don't kid yourselves, there is nothing about choice in what they believe. They truly think they know better (and are better) than you, me or anyone else out there and that gives them the right to tell us what to do, where to do it, when to do it and even if we can do it or not. The only way to defend against it is to completely refuse to yield that choice to ANYONE. In this case, that was the whole point of 'gateway' messages on websites.

Anyway, thats my yearly contribution to philosophy so everyone have a great holiday and safe new year.
