"Hey! Howz it going?" He greeted me
"Alright i guess" I replied unenthusiastically
"Just alright? what would make you happier?"
"More money"
"Hah! Money won't make you happy buddy"

He then left with cash out envelope of profits that counted up the night before and left.

Money will make you happy until you get past the subsistence level (basic everyday needs). No, money alone won't make you happy. I've known people who were rich and constantly miserable, because their whole life was about making money, worrying about it, and basically being on a treadmill of acquistion. Then there are people who have lower paying jobs, but manage their money and have a satisfying family, relationships, friends, well rounded life. Balance is the key to a happy life, not gobs of $$.

my guess is someone working 60-70 hours a week to make 120 grand a year or more is not going to be as happy as someone working 35-40 hours a week making 50 grand a year...

It's nice to have time to actually live.

Agreed!

It is better to focus on family and friends for happiness. All of my friends get paid average and live life just as good as anyone else.

Most women do not want their guy working more then 40 hours a week.

You have to include the higher income tax to higher income.

If you can make more and work less hours then do that.

I rather be miserable & rich than to be miserable and poor

Most people I've met that don't have much money or are struggling to pay bills...all they talk about is money...so how can these poor bastards be happy?

It's all bullshit!

Most people are struggling like hell to pay their bills. All these nice cars and homes are usually financed to death. I know, I am in that situation and most of my co workers are that way.

Lets put it this way, Some say 1.4 is cheap for 45 mins of poon. But lets say one day you forgot your wallet and want to ask you co worker for lunch money. Not easy to even ask for 5, 6 bucks is it? And how many will say they cant spare it or really trust dont you to pay it back? Reality stinks.

So they next person to say 1.4 is cheap for 45 minutes is a stupid ass. And gals that cost 300 per hour, I would pay that if you are a famous movie star and thats as high as I go.

Hundreds of thousands of people die daily because they have no money, even here in Canada or in the US.

But many people die because they have too much money. See drug problems, fast cars, own air planes, etc.
John Kennedy Jr. would be still alive had he been born as an average Joe. So would be Princess Diana.

Truth is, a fool with money is just another fool. There are people who manage to be happy without money and others who manage to be miserable with a lot of it.

Have you ever seen anyone riding a jet ski not smiling?
True. Sometimes I feel like wiping off that snug smile from the faces of the very rich and send them to work in a coal mine for a week or two. :)

Define being Happy,

Without Prejudice, IF your an Asian, (Chinese most likely) It's all about $$$

Generally speaking, IF you have the $$$, you don't have the time.

If you have the Time , you don't have the $$$.

Happiness is within.

Keeping Banging chicks, That WILL make you HAPPY.

In are capitalist society, i personally believe money is pretty much a way of getting what you want. Oviously money CAN'T buy happiness but, it can surely make you that much closer to obtaining it.

Money is Power

Money has the potential to give us freedom to do what we want with our time and freedom from worrying about life's necessities: the mortgage, the utilities, groceries, clothing, our kids' educations, etc.
That's why, as mentioned previously, some well off folk are still miserable: they are either on a treadmill of perpetual slavery to maintain their wealth, or are worrying about maintaining it.
The allure of wealth to me is the aspect of freedom.

Being happy or miserable is always your own choice. You can be happy and poor, but when you're happy and rich, you've got more resources to help others.... and that make me happier!

very interesting analogy, it is also true. You yourself decide if you will be happy or not. It all comes down to what decisions you make.

Life is good, with or without money. :)

" If you don't appreciate the small you don't deserve the big "

I was happy when I didn't have a car until 7 years ago, I was happy when I had a small apartment and no tv, I was happy when I made $ 10 an hour for years. Now, I got it all and I am still the same person. Happy !!!! hehe
Overall, yes money does help.

I don't see anybody yelling " God, please take my money away " LOL

Associating freedom with wealth is a societal myth perpetuated by the media and pop culture. Having that bigger house, new $100,000 car, a cottage, and a bunch of investments is basically a big list of things you have to maintain and worry about. Get a security system so no one breaks into your mansion and steals your jewels, alarm on the car so no one steals it, insurance and maintenance, upkeep on your cottage and boat, worrying about your investments, love interests and family always after you to buy stuff for them, wondering if friends only accept you for your money, telling your soulmate that you finally met that you want a pre-nup in case she divorces you... Then you have the buddhist monk, who has few possessions, lives simply, and does not worry about where his next meal will come from, or where he will sleep. Does wealth mean you are free, or does it hold you back from focusing on what is most important at the end of the day?

This coming from a sp...you crack me up. You charge 200+ a hour and you're telling me money doesnt matter much. It's doubtful the majority of your income from sping is donated for charity. If money didnt matter you'd be working a reg job making a reg income.

Being happy or miserable is always your own choice. You can be happy and poor, but when you're happy and rich, you've got more resources to help others.... and that make me happier!
