The Vancouver Sun
With only the date to be announced, the Vancouver Whitecaps will disclose at a news conference today that they have reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Galaxy for an exhibition soccer game at BC Place Stadium this year -- the star attraction being world-renowned midfielder David Beckham.

The most likely date for a friendly game between the Caps and Galaxy may be between Aug. 27 and Aug. 31. Both teams have regular-season games on Aug. 26, but the Caps are idle until Aug. 30 and the Galaxy doesn't resume play until Sept. 1.
While it will not be the best soccer (football for you die-hards) out there it could definately be one worth watching.

Nah, it will not be worth watching. It'll only be worth the "I saw Beckham play" experience.

He will not play well or play very much, it's just an exhibition.

Damn, I forgot about Avarice's desire for this man....ah, now I remember the last World Cup and the joy of seeing Beckham fake an injury to get off the field :p

Fake an injury? Are you that ignorant? You think he'd piss all over his country and let them down and his own FINAL dreams at winning a World Cup since it was his LAST year. He was crying on the sidelines.
Come on now, that was a ploy on his part ;). His play has deteriorated over the last few years. It gave him a decent excuse to not have the blame placed on him for England's performance in the World Cup.

I do jest. I pretty much don't like any of England's players. Go Germany! :p

Beckham once was a great player, but he has slowed with age and pretty much become a stopped ball specialist.

I'm with Avarice on this one ... it would be worth seeing Beckham
just because he's Beckham ...

its no different that seeing one of the hockey greats strap
on the skates ...

Football (soccer) is a great sport and anything that gets more
of it around here the better ...

I'd be happy to convert all golf courses, for example, to soccer
fields!

can double as women's field hockey too!

:p

Avarice & LG, I agree with you. If Gretzky was going to play in an Oldtimers game here in Vancouver I bet it would sell out. Just think of all the Dads who would take their kids.

Same for Beckham. My kids love soccer and you can bet I will be taking them to this game. Hopefully, the tickets will not be overpriced.

look at the outdoor game they had in Alberta and the Oilers oldtimes
(Gretzky and Messier et al) ... they could have done it for a week
and still sold out every time!

as for price, compared to what? a movie for a family is nearly $100, take
them to dinner someplace nice and its another $100 plus ...

it would be nice if the prices are reasonable and hopefully they won't
sell 'blocks' to the scalpers.

Who wants to see this boring shit?

I don't think soccer is entertaining to watch, especially in BC Place. Don't see what the fuss is all about...some guy skipping across fake turf with gel in his hair and money on his mind...

Bah...
