Now that this thread has reached over 10,000 viewings, its getting somewhat - -- less interesting.

And your point is? This graph shows the earth warming since 1980, cooling for the previous 30 years, etc. Nobody is questioning that. The real question is what is causing it? There is no conclusive evidence man is the cause. He may be a minor contriboutor and we all need to reduce our carbon footprint. But these trends are always going to changes on happen in the universe.
BTW - If man is causing it, how are Al's indulgences going to cure it?

nb - you do not need to tell me abot trend analysis, I been doing it for 35 years.
Randy Whorewald said:
You can't establish trendzzzzz over the short span of 20 years - its ludicrous!
Randy Whorewald said:
That's because I am without equal!!
Yes, Randy, you certainly have no equal.

You ask my point….. oh, just that the mean global surface temperature has increased by about 0.3 to 0.6°C since the late 19th century and by about 0.2 to 0.3°C over the last 40 years. Trends Randy, trends. For someone who claims to be “35 years trendy” (oh my!), for someone who boldly proclaims 20 years is too short a period to, uhhh, establish trending you somehow managed to find a cooling earth interpretation in there… somewhere.

Randy Whorewald said:

why Randy? – you’ve said it’s all a sham… are you finally coming around Randy? :D

This should help this global warming "cause" thread along.......

It's snowing like a bastard out here in the Valley! WTF !!!

So much for trends analysis, this should put a downward spike in that
whole global warming theory crap. Oh I know, I know, it's only a trend
right? The last 4 months or so have nearly broken records I
believe for a cooling trend here in BC.

Up country they got more snow this year than in the past 12.

Up down, up down goes the roller coaster in this latest mass media
global warming craze equinox.
I just love it when this shit happens and how all the politicians see what
the general public is being fed and how they can generate votes on the
latest scare tactics.

We might as well prepare ourselves for all the potential climates from the next Ice Age to Easy-Bake oven.

Frankly, if we can't cope with a +/- 7C temperature band (roughly the range of the last 500 million years, versus the current mean), we don't deserve to rule the world.

Yah, what if we were going into an ice age? Would we be pushed to start
burning more fossil fuels to get the CO2 emissions back up there to
start an upward global warming trend?

I guess we'll find out in say the next 100 years or so if this warming trend
doesn't diminish like all the last ones. Then we probably won't have to
worry to much if we're going to be the dominant species on this planet.

As quarter miler said, things could just as easily turn the opposite direction and cool off again. Such is the nature of the universe. Incidentally, a span of 50 or even 150 years is not very much of a trend when you measure it against millions of years of climate change.

Another interesting note RW, was listening to NW 980 between 6:30
and 7:00 PM last night. Forget the radio hosts name but his guest was
Neil Calder I think it was a british scientist who just wrote a book
about all this.

Well he had an intersting bit to add that nobody is being told about.
He mentioned the arctic glaciers and Ice caps melting, the polar bears,
(which are still here and in greater numbers than the last I forget what
the number of years was he said), but according to scientific study,
the ANTARCTIC polar cap has increased by a full 8% in size and there mean
temperature has dropped over the last 150 years.

Yes it's getting colder on the south polar cap. GO FIGURE !!
So why are they not telling us that interesting bit of info but had
to hear it from this guy first? I can't recall a single instance of this
stunning fact let loose on the paranoid populace of the earth about
global warming.

Sure even this guy admits that what we have put into the atmosphere
is miniscule in relation to how much the temperature increases.
What man has contributed he alluded to isn't hardly worth mentioning
Compared to what exists by nature alone.

Btw, he did say that when the earth warms up naturally like all the last
trends in oh say the last 500 million years, nature starts to pour more
Co2 into the atmosphere all by itself. It's a normal escalation of this gas
as the surface heats up. I didn't get to hear where he said the Co2 comes from when the surface warms but he said that it is a natural occurence.

My guess would have to be that when biological matter on the ground
warms up it speeds up the decay process, (like composting your garden
and kitchen wastes), releasing a lot more Co2 to the air.

Human kind the big contributor to Global warming, scam of the century !!
What a bunch of bullshit!
Human kind the biggest polluter of our atmosphere. Now that one I
believe, but being the main cause for global warming trends?

Yah right!

It always seems that man needs a scare tactic to keep the global populace
in control. Oil crisis in the early seventies, Ozone hole so big they said we'd
all be dead or burnt to a crisp by the year 2000.
We're all still fucking here or is this a scam
as well , and our existance is just an allusion?

After this one trickles off what will be next?

Oh I know...........over use of chemicals in our daily lives, like pesticides
and home cleaning products, not to mention those nifty smelling asswipes
you throw in your dryer to make your clothes fresh smelling and static
free, is why cancer is so rampant when less people smoke today than ever before. Ever seen the blue stains on the inside of the dryer from those
things? Try and get it off the enamel, and your skin is soaking that shit in
24/7 if you're using them.

Remember those commercials they did back in the fifties where a
truck drove along the city sidewalks spraying DDT while people were
walking along and they said it was safe? Talk about your stupid class
of human beings and what we'll believe!

But then we all knew that didn't we? :D

My apologies for getting anyone paranoid ! :p

LOL - Gummer... another late comer! Talk Radio

Neil Calder... try Nigel Calder
scientist... try science writer

everything else you've blathered on about is sooooo old news... try actually reading this thread, hey?

perhaps start with Calder's work on the Global Warming Swindle... kinda debunked to no end :D

my god man... I'm embarrassed for ya - perhaps it is time to cap this thread after all - yeesh!

Resorting to your usual name calling right off at the start mister better
and smarter than the rest of us?

Excuse me for putting my .02 cents in on the thread and when I did it.
I don't recall having asked for your opinion simply because of your
posting style and wanted to avoid you all together cuz the negativity
you bring here in the form of attacking members input that doesn't follow
on your coat tails is loathsome at best.

I see you don't care much for scepticism if it don't fit into the
way you see things, so in simple terms for ya..................

FUCK OFF !!

Whoops..... my mistake, I fed the literate troll again!

Another interesting blog on this topic:

'Although such anecdotal evidence as January’s snowfall in Tucson, Arizona and freezing weather in Southern California and February’s more than 100-inch snowfall in upstate New York might suggest otherwise, global warming may indeed be a fact. It may also be a fact that it is a by-product of industrial civilization (despite, according to The New York Times of November 7, 2006, two ice ages having apparently occurred in the face of carbon levels in the atmosphere 16 times greater than that of today, millions of years before mankind’s appearance on earth).

If global warming and mankind’s responsibility for it really are facts, does anything automatically follow from them? Does it follow that there is a need to limit and/or reduce carbon emissions and the use of the fossil fuels—oil, coal, and natural gas—that gives rise to the emissions? The need for such limitation and/or rollback is the usual assumption.

Nevertheless, the truth is that nothing whatever follows from these facts. Before any implication for action can be present, additional information is required.

One essential piece of information is the comparative valuation attached to retaining industrial civilization versus avoiding global warming. If one values the benefits provided by industrial civilization above the avoidance of the losses alleged to result from global warming, it follows that nothing should be done to stop global warming that destroys or undermines industrial civilization. That is, it follows that global warming should simply be accepted as a byproduct of economic progress and that life should go on as normal in the face of it.'

Ha! name calling? Ya mean the name Gummer – LOL – thought you said you liked that name. Isn’t it interesting to read your reaction to someone coming in over top of one of your posts… a bit hypocritical given the purposeful song and dance you performed in “that other post” – wouldn’t ya say. Talk about a whiney bitch… uhhh, wasn’t that your phrasing? How “turn about is fair play”… wouldn’t you say?

Skepticism? Is that what your post was? All I read was a reference to an incorrect name, incorrectly attributed to a scientist (rather than a writer), one who is best known for being associated with that totally debunked Swindle film… oh, and you also added a lot of, as I quote “scam of the century”, “what a bunch of bullshit”, “scare tactic”… all framed around such insightful commentary about oil crisis, ozone holes, chemicals, pesticides, etc.; nothing actually to do with climate change.

The real point is this topic is paramount in importance and much of substance has been discussed in this thread… yes, real discussion. Not the bullshit that some of us are guilty of in falling back on past grievances. Skepticism is a very healthy framework to logical debate – your post was neither skepticism or logical commentary. Why not get engaged in this thread and actually offer up something that adds to the debate around this most significant topic… and guess what… you’ll be challenged on it. Can ya handle it? How about you Tatortot… can ya handle it?
