depending on your version of Word the setting might be in different places.

I searched for "word automatic indent" (without the quotes) in Google and found a document with this info for Word 2000 (and earlier?).

If you have set an indent previously in a document, whenever you type a tab at the beginning of a blank row, an indent is automatically set. If you type a backspace after typing the tab, the indent is decreased. To turn this option off:
1. Tools menu, Preferences (Options on a PC)
2. Edit tab
3. Click on “Tabs and Backspace Set Left Indent”
In Word 2003, there is a setting in Tools, AutoCorrect in the "Autoformat As You Type" tab. You might also check the settings in the AutoFormat tab.

If that doesn't help, maybe we can arrange to meet in chat to figure this out.

Good Luck.

right behind you!
Turn on or off automatic formatting
On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
Select or clear the options you want.
For Help on an option, click the question mark , and then click the option.

Note You can undo formatting or turn options on or off by clicking an option on the AutoCorrect Options button . Depending on the situation, the entire button may appear or the button may first appear as a small, blue box that changes to a button icon when you point to it.
