I coached my kids soccer as they were growing up, dabbled a bit playing years ago but never became a fan to any great extend. Not anything approaching some of the fans you see in the WC. But for Canada to get this far and potentially move on to the next round is quite the achievement.

So I am wearing red today, I put a new flag up on the garage the other day and I say Go Canada, make us all proud.

It’s amazing to see the cultural diversity. Really helps to bring us more closely together.

Soccer is the cheapest sport. A soccer ball is all you need. A net, a dirt field... to play in.

For most of the world its the only sport kids see and can do.

Its a sport that 3rd world, and 1st world countries can do.

1st world countries sports athletes go for hockey, baseball, football (american) and basketball, where as adults they can make money (which is why in the 1st world they suck at soccer). 3rd world athletes goal is the national team or to play for a European Soccer Team.

Soccer was big in Canada till about 85 still, when there was that North American Soccer league. Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto Blizzardl. In N. America the soccer leagues could not compete against American Football and Baseball, Basket ball and hockey.

I remember on the Wide World of Sports on Saturday, they had a best athlete contest (Canadian Superstars)... The guy (Brian Budd) that won all the time was a soccer player (ok 3 times in a row). he did the same in the world superstars too....
