Want to elaborate on that a bit? 🤔
No reviews should be enough to not send money into the unknown.

Some of these scams are getting pretty good, every time we post our red flags they get more information on how to be smarter.

Generally soon as I get a request for a deposit, I back away. However I’ve noticed that there seem to be a number of reasonably legitimate high end providers who require deposits for new clients (on top of some fairly risky screening practices). I’ve wondered how to handle these - I know some are well known/reviewed, but others have no history but don’t strike me as a scam.

Are there ways to handle a deposit/screening without handing over dangerous identification information (like some request a photo of a drivers licence… that’s not cool).

You have to remember — you’re the boss and you have choices. They’re the ones trying to earn your business, not the other way around. I learned my lesson years ago when I used my real number with a provider in Vancouver — the handler was waiting inside, took the money, then kept calling and demanding more or they’d publish my number. Total extortion.
From just a deposit or a phone number, they can easily pull up your full name and address. So be extremely cautious with what you share. There are plenty of reputable providers who don’t ask for deposits, and plenty of spas (including some Asian ones) that have diverse staff and transparent practices.
Personally, the moment I’m asked for a deposit, I walk away. If someone’s truly professional, they’ll respect that. Safety and privacy come first — always.
