Had it confirmed at my local 7-11 they are waiting for 4g sim cards to be given to customers that need them. They took my number and said they'd call when they come in.
Just went to a 711 this morning for the new sim card. The clerk said they don't have speakout sims anymore. They quit dealing with speakout some time ago and all she could offer was a chatr sim card for $7.00

I got a call that my free 4G Speakout sim was in this morning at my 7-eleven, and now my phone is now disabled on the 4G sim. Still works on the 3G.

My network choices on 4G are only Telus, Koodo or Public, and nothing will connect, obviously.

My old 3G sim shows networks - Speakout, Rogers and Chatr. So, even though I have a new Speakout sim, it doesn't seem that the Speakout, or Rogers networks are available.

My phone is compatible with whatver network Lucky is using, but I don't want to pay $19 a mnth for a phone I rarely use.

WTF…that’s super annoying. Are you going to try to get ahold of them to see if there is a resolution to using the 4g sim on Speakout? I use my phone a few times when setting up appointments but not more than once a month usually, and less lately. I’m definitely not into a flat monthly rate which is a waste 🙄

No point in playing the waiting game if you want to keep/port your number while it's still active. Chatr has $100/yr plan (no data) but of course you have to commit for the 12 months.

Frankly if you can afford to poon, you can afford paying $20 or so monthly (with data elsewhere.) Anyway there are no more "burners" with a phone plan with any carrier.

Impossible to get ahold of anyone at Speakout. They don't answer emails, and the phone lines just tell you they are very busy, then disconnect.

Apparently my phone isn't compatible with Chatr's network. And it'ss not about the money - it's about most plans needing payment by CC, and loss of anonymity.

what phone are you using? make sure to set 4g first for 4g phone, 5g first for 5g phone. what is the new sim card's access point name? it should contain lte.
It's a Maxwest Neo flip phone. If I use the new card it says I'm on 4G, but none of the networks available use the frequency the phone uses. Access point has a list, but even when I select Speakout from the list, it refuses to connect. I suspect, because Telus doesn't have a frequency my phone can access, which must be what Speakout are using for host network now.

Bummer, because I specifically bought the phone last year nbecause I knew 3G was going down.

this phone has the 4g frequencies in NA. However, i don't think this brand has the market here in canada. therefore, all mobile networks here in canada will not provision/certify the phone for 4g and 5g use. you need to change a new phone that its brand has market shares here in canada. mobile networks nowadays don't want to provision/certify phone brands that don't have market here in canada due to high maintenance cost.

Not sure I understand the logic. Why would carriers care what phone is being used? Useage is useage, and they get paid for network useage regardless of phone.

national security. some brands especially china need all electronic devices to have a backdoor built into it so that everything can go back to china and hence you are losing privacy. it's in the laws. we are now in the new era of war. ;)

Canada doesn't have national security. We literally bend over for China. We don't even take action when they take citizens hostage.

If you bought the phone from a Canadian store, and it supports volte, I think you can still stay on the speakout talk and text plan that doesn't expire for 365 days.
I am no tech wizard, but from what I have read, it sounds like this 3g shutdown only affects those with 3g and older phones.
They have $25 off promo on a tcl 502 with a $50 or more top up right now, if you need a newer phone.

Costco has good deal on a Motorola

Has anyone else on Speakout gotten their new 4G sim card from 7-11 and got it working??🤔

Motorola is now one of those brands, owned by Lenovo.
