I live in the US and my Blue Cross PPO is paid by my former employer, I retired five years ago at age 40. Other than Kaiser, which I would never use, I can call any specialist and normally get in within 72 hours. My co-pay is $10 per visit. Conversely, my friend is an orthopedic surgeon in Toronto and he moonlights in SC to make ends meet. He compared medical services in Canada to the military, “seriously lacking”. Regardless, the Canadian government will FINALLY agree to a fair trade agreement because they know a tariff will quickly crush Canada. Trump did not fly to Canada, Justin Trudeau flew to Florida and offered to wipe Trump’s ass. Unless the US pulls out of NATO and it falls on its face, I also believe Canada will also start contributing 2% of GDP to NATO. Get ready for your taxes to go even higher so you can continue to receive “free” healthcare
Idiocy. The US , like Canada , exported most of its maufacturing base to fight the unions and exploit slave like labour overseas. It will take YEARS to reinstate that base and in the meantime the US will have shot itself in the foot and raised prices on required infrastructure items as well as other goods. The US economy as a whole will suffer.

Proponents of the tarrif approach tend to think of it like being a poker bully who forces you out before the flop. But there isnt a full deck, and a good pair can break you.

Since i also have friends in the US which do not compare to your situation. Would you consider yourself in a normal position ? Above average ? Privilege position ?

Have you consider or what is your view on covering the average US citizen a fraction of your coverage ? Forcing people ( youth ) into obamacare to reduce the average premium ?

You can't just go in and just make random changes and get them approved. Again, that's not how anything works. You clearly didn't read or pay any attention to anything in the link given to you. Numerous people from the trump campaign team have been convicted of crimes related to all of this, and that's a plain fact. He had the most criminally convicted campaign team in history, due to exactly this issue. And the findings of the investigation found that there was a basis to speculate that Trump had committed crimes, but that intelligence agencies didn't have the authority to perform those investigations. Just saying that everybody in the entire world of news has some fake, made up bias against Trump is just moronic. And again, intelligence from numerous other countries confirmed that this was happening as well. Just plugging your ears and burying your head in the sand won't make the facts go away.
You clearly didnt pay any attention to the link I gave you ...that is for certain. You can. As for the rest of your babble I just look at the sources...the same ones that have lied over and over about everything from the border is closed to Trump called for a bloodbath to ivermectin is horsepaste and just dismiss it. Sources I use for information are far more accurate...but you go ahead and believe mainstream media. I want you to.

And as for the accuracy of Wikipedia information.....

Both sides will suffer. But the easiest thing to do is the most obvious. Neither country needs an unsecured border. Just fix the problem. Most of the provinces have indicated willingness to do so except perhaps Doug Ford but there will be no tariffs imposed. Its all bluster from both sides but several provinces are already taking action.

NEWS FLASH: It is time for Canadians to pay their fair share and stop sucking the life out of American taxpayers! Canada will lose a tariff war with America, Canada will not survive without the American taxpayer. Canadian‘s need to grow a spine, go to work, pay for themselves, or else DJT will crush your economy. Votes have consequences! MAGA!
"Tariff war". Really? Do you know how a tariff works? You do realize that it's the American taxpayer who will be paying these tariffs, right? Crush our economy? Clearly you are unaware of the hundreds of towns and citys along the Canadian/U.S. border that are dependent upon one another (ever hear of Point Roberts?). I'm not surprised. Most Americans barely know anything about the next county; never mind a completely different country. The amount of resources (oil, lumber etc.) we sell to the U.S. helps keep YOUR economy going. And your elected sex offender wants to crush it? Well, that makes sense; that's how he ran all of his own businesses into the ground.

I'm guessing you're in the top 5% of America? Retired at 40 (not a 1%er, they don't retire)? Pretty sure your experience isn't anything like the majority of Americans who don't have Blue Cross and may be losing "ObamaCare" aka The Affordable Care Act. "Voting has consequences." Perhaps the next time you find yourself driving through an inner city, you should park your car and talk to some of the veterans living on the street. Strange that they're out there, what with Americans valuing their "service" and all.
Fair trade agreement? Uh, that has nothing to do with tariffs.
No problem with Canada contributing 2% to NATO, should've been doing that all along.
"Free healthcare"? Only an American would believe that Canadians think our healthcare is free. I'm old enough to remember getting my MSP bill in the mail every month. All they did was roll that into our taxes. More convenient and we save trees.

Great questions! I am very fortunate, but having said that, I worked my ass off, nothing was given to me. I do not buy into socialism, I think it creates lazy people. Look at the American Indians that still live on government funded reservations. I have visited many and for the most part, they live in trailers and sell beads on the side of the road. Again, just my opinion, many are not motivated to better themselves because the government subsidizes that lifestyle. The same is true for much of urban America, free stuff, AKA, welfare created a population dependent on government. A ton of young adults are allowed to collect Social Security Disability checks for ADHD. I also have ADHA and struggled in school. Both of my parents were dirt poor and neither graduated high school, but I learned to work and learn about money. Contrary to what a lot of people believe, in the United States, hospitals cannot turn away patients for any reason. Healthcare is easily available, Obamacare is a total political scam and it is a failure. All it did was make people like me pay an additional 3% tax to fund something, because nothing has changed. Socialized medicine is definitely not the answer, just like the American military, it is subpar. Many doctors in Canada come to the US to make money. Free stuff is not free, someone pays for it, via taxes and in the US, the government is not efficient by any stretch. To answer your question, I am better off than most, but many are better off than me. It is called capitalism. We cannot all be equal, or nobody would need to work and I know work, saving and living below my means, put me in this position. Think about the fact, without the US NATO would collapse because most member countries do not fund it with 2% of their GDP. They rely on welfare from the US. That is ridiculous! The trade tariff thing, why should the US allow other countries to impose tariffs on U.S. if we do not do it to them? Why should Ford build cars in Canada 20 miles North of the border? Why should my taxes go to Canada to fund its social problems when they don’t even fund NATO correctly? I would rather give money to some of our disabled veterans than fund social programs in another country. I suspect the government in Canada is like the US government, full of waste. I hope Trump will clean our house and make America first, maybe Canadians should do the same.

I would agree that Americas military is their biggest welfare program.
You also like the stuff you get from welfare, you just dont want to pay for it. Schools, roads, hospitals, police, firefighters, scientists , engineers, healthworkers, produce pickers etc.. were all funded with 'socialism' and have all given you things for much less than you'd pay if they resorted to the pure capatilism you espouse.
Your situation is top 10% of the states if not top 1%, yet you dont think you're rich and want to pull the ladder up behind you. Your income bracket allready takes over 50% of production leaving crumbs for everyone else yet you are worried about the fairness of it. #Luigi'28

Its looking to me like Trump will switch the topic to complain about something else even if Canada 'secures' its border. He wants to apply pressure using mercantile tactics cause he thinks hes smartest. If hes successful the dollar will devalue and the Us can swoop in and buy Canadian companies up for pennies.

I also though it was the responsibility of a country to control its own border and give the citizens within freedom of movement, but what do I know.

America is a country founded by immigrants with it baked in to their economy. Once upon a time nobody wanted Italians, Irish, Polish, or generally any other Catholic peoples or Jews. This sentiment as a political cry is bassackward.

Because visiting some place is the same as living there.
(snip)Contrary to what a lot of people believe, in the United States, hospitals cannot turn away patients for any reason. (snip)
True, but an extended stay due to a serious illness can leave you indebted to them for decades.
(snip)Why should Ford build cars in Canada 20 miles North of the border? (snip)
Because Ford can operate their company the way they want to. And if it weren't for Canada's contribution in building the American Icon auto, Americans couldn't afford to buy them (cheaper Can $).
(snip)Why should my taxes go to Canada to fund its social problems (snip)
As an American taxpayer I doubt that you are paying for our "social problems".
(snip)I suspect the government in Canada is like the US government, full of waste. (snip)
True.

scientists , engineers, healthworkers, produce pickers etc, make money themselves, but there is no reason a produce picker should earn the same as a scientist. If life was fair, we would all be Jeff Bezos. I am not in the top 1%, maybe 10%-20%, but not 1%. Regardless, it is how I got there that is important and if a kid from a dirt poor family can do it, anyone can do it. I barely got out of high school. I joined the Marines so I could go to college on the GI bill, which is available to everyone that puts in the time. Dude, my mom put cardboard in my shoes because they had holes in the bottom and I wasn’t the only kid on the block with cardboard. I don’t care about the ladder, I just don’t think it is necessary to climb it for people that refuse to climb it themselves.

Doctors and nurses go both ways as i did some work for a few of them this past year from Ohio, California and Arizona. Don't think that its a one way thing.

Ok it sounds like you would like trades to go back to the tit for tat type of economy like we had in the early 1900 . Keep in mind that the US back then in the 1920 to 50s you represented 50% of the world economy but now your dollar might still represent 25 % and your PPP barely above 15% with most of the world having free trade agreements . Soon enough your trade partners will turn on you economically and politically which was initiated under Bush jr which allowed China to sneak in and grow their influence in some parts of the world and put in overdrive with trumps management (thinking) as he doesn't have policies per say . That will make China happy and rub your friends and partners the wrong way. Again it's like playing checkers when everyone else is playing chess .

The reconstruction of Japan and the Marshall plan allowed the US to grow and maintain its influence for more than 60 years over way more than 50 % of the world economy but now its being dismantled slowly but surely . Sad

Your compalint about socialist medicine says you dont want to pay for it. And if you're a vet, guess what , your great plan is subsidized by taxpayers who cant even get the same plan. So again, you like the fruits of socialism but dont want to care for the tree. You complain about someone else getting a crumb from a cookie while the top 10% hoards enourmous piles of gold and wastes it friviously on whatever pet idiological initiative is in vogue, especially when it involves depriving others in crueler and crueler ways.

I pay for police, firefighters, schools and roads with taxes, for which I have no problem! I just do not want to pay for those services in another country.

I agree, China did become a huge force, but for many more reasons than you are articulated. Even the Roman Roman Empire was destroyed and one day the United States may be destroyed as well.. however with the current world climate, America is imploding from within. The liberal crap about making millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share, is crap. Those high worth individuals cannot support the entire country forever and most of the rich people own businesses that support jobs and the economy. America cannot continue to stick its nose and other countries business. It also cannot continue to monetarily support other nations. I believe that is just one reason Trump won in a landslide. The last I read was we spent over $300 billion supporting Biden‘s illegal invasion. On top of it, the United States has been gifting, Ukraine billions of dollars, pretty soon the will run dry and cause the government to print more money, which was a huge driver of inflation. If Canada and other countries want to provide social services, they should do it on their own dime. If Zelensky wants to preserve his power, he should do it on Ukraine’s own dime.
