Trump is heading for the win. Harris is heading for the loss.

Through 2024, so many posts on the USA Political Thread were about Trump bashing, Orange Turd pile-on, and condemnation of all his many indiscretions and transgressions. Justly deserved by Canadian values, and assumedly so by the millions of people south of the boarder we consider global allies.

Yet the yanks are voting him in.

Again.

So what is it about the American electorate that we North-of-the-Border peanut gallery spouters clearly do not understand?

Do we not know our neighbours better than this? Time for some calm introspection imho.
They're dumb.

-Sincerely, an American

Mind boggling ! We assumed that his short comings , incompetence and lack of human decency would be enough to deter the electors but the American moral compass is different than ours .

They must still think that the constitution will be enough to offer some checks and balances with the trump administration.

This was a “Dinner Table” election.

Who do I feel will continue to protect local jobs for hard-working Americans, putting food on our kitchen table?

Who do I feel will manage the border and reduce stress on my job prospects, and my son’s and daughter’s prospects? Maybe my kids job rights are more important to me right now than abortion rights.

Who do I feel will take action on crime and reduce risks to my family’s wellbeing? Maybe this is more important to me right now than C02 emmissions.

Who will perpetuate wars in Ukraine and Gaza, etc., and who is more likely to find a way to end them?

Stats are irrelevant. People make choices based on emotions. As much as I rooted for the Dems the last 4 elections, they remain inept on strategies to reach the large American base sentiments. Pandering to politically correct constituents only works if the electorate is really pissed off with the incumbent, as was the case when Biden won. But now we can overlook massive personal candidate shortcomings in the belief of maxing food on the table. It is hard to vote for social justice when you are worried about your job. Legit or not—that is the challenge of politicians to communicate. Dems blew it.

And Harris pulled a Hillary. Lost my respect by not finding the courage to come out on election night and personally thank all the people who fought for her. Fucking entitled coward when the chips came down. “Oh, she will comment tomorrow”. Coward. Big mistake for showing strength of American leadership. No recovery for her now.

Democrats ran on issues that the majority of the American public did not particularly care about (jan6, Trump is a nazi, abortion), particularly when faced with massive inflation and a migrant crisis that the sitting government was not taking any serious issues to stem. Calling American voters stupid....look who we have had running our country for the last 9 years and reelected twice. The ultimate narcissist.
Kamala was not a good candidate and Walz was worse...they should have had a primary after ousting Joe Biden and they could have picked someone better but she had 30 million dollars in the kitty which could not be spent on any other candidate. The Democratic party fucked up. I wonder if it would have been different even if she picked Shapiro as her VP....she could have won Pennsyvania at least.

Unless something drastic happens at this point it appears that SE7Landrover97 can enjoy a year long vacation from the board which it appears he actually started a couple of weeks ago. That happened in 2020 but I dont think its happening in 2024.

Donald J Trump will be president again. It’s game over for Harris. I now understand. I was wrong on my views on a lot of issues that most Americans are concerned with. But my views of Trump will not change. Well, it’s going to be interesting to see how the next coming years will be in America and the rest of the world. It probably will be the end of NATO? Who knows how Canada will be affected.

Very gracious and classy concession. Good luck. PS it will not be the end of NATO. Most if not all countries are now ponying up their fair share of the military cost.

Lower Mainland, B.C.
One of the major reasons that Americans voted for Trump was because of the cost of living increase due to inflation.
I would be curious to know what percentage of the people that voted for Trump realize that even if invalation went down to 0%, that would not cause a reversal of the inflation that has already occurred for the most part. And therefore the cost of living would not go down.

And if Trump gets rid of income tax for his rich buddies and replaces it with a sales tax has he has suggested, the cost of living is about to go up a great deal for the average American!

It was clear that blue collar workers put their trust and votes in the Republicans, accepting efforts to bolster businesses that provide good jobs while valuing the unions that protect the workers concerns. Meanwhile rejecting the ususl democrat rhetoric about tax breaks for the rich, etc, etc. This was a vote for representation rather than scare tactics and biased economic conjecturing.

Food on the table.

Kamala Harris was a terrible candidate. There was a reason she was polling at 2 percent when she dropped out of the Democratic Primary in 2019.

Four more years of Donald Trump...FUCK!!!

It’s pretty mind blowing, I thought he was done after lying about the last election being stolen, that disqualified him for me not to mention the classified papers and all the nasty shit he has done. The right wing disinformation network has done its job but you have to hand it to him he really knows how to sell himself. If they lose their pre existing conditions healthcare and other social benefits along with the gains by the Christian right they really will have earned what they have voted for. Praise Be Hallelujah Holy Shit!😵‍💫🤪

Less than a third of the countries pay the 2 % GDP benchmark . Can we assume than it will enough to keep the temperamental President happy ?

When I was in Europe this summer, people were talking about a possible Trump victory. They said that they would probably be facing Putin alone if it happened. Many were advocating to have their own nuclear weapons. I think that we will see a proliferation of these and other weapons. Companies like Rheinmetal, Saab, etc., will do very well as the Europeans put their defence dollars into creating their own secure weapons. Don't need to ask America permission to use them.

They wont have to worry about facing Putin. His military have had enough trouble with an undermanned and aging Ukraine army with little air support for him even to consider attacking a NATO country.

Trump will force the Ukraine into a 'peace' which screws the Ukraine and gives Putin time. I absolutely agree that the Russians have done poorly but they have learnt a great deal (according to the Ukrainians). Long term we are headed into instability around the world. Autocrats and oligarchs will be able to play out the fantasies in their minds.
