The downtown Eastside has been a mess since I was a kid. I grew up here. The loss of sro’s made it more noticeable because now they have no where to go. That is definitely not the NDPS fault.
Yeah it's a world wide problem. I travel alot, and its every city. Obviously the milder the climate (West coasts) I'll see it more Seattle Vancouver Victoria Portland SFO lax etc.

As much as it's easy to blame politicians for not fixing it, what are the solutions. ?

I personally believe this is the best outcome from the election. Minority for both parties and with either Green or maybe down the road, an Independent, hold the balance of power. It's to prevent outrageous policies from either party. It's tough economic time, so they needed to be kept in checks - much like teenagers!

really? you really like what's been happening federally for 2 yrs?

or when the Bloc was the "balance of power"

like the Greens aren't nut jobs, a one idea/purpose party

and economically? no, that's when they will spend, like they always do to placate the hostage taker party, doing anything to cling to power

Like the Turd has done for 2 yrs

it causes gridlock, when nothing gets done, look anywhere it happens in the world, it never works well

the only thing that prevents outrageous policies is public pressure

We can't talk about the Bloc because their own purpose is separatism!

As for Greens, they are not that far from what the NDP's were a couple decades ago.

As for the Turd, maybe he should go see SP's. Afterall, he was not getting it for awhile. Maybe he was more productive if he visits a few lovely ladies. :)

Public pressure?? Really?? When the Turd passed the Bill C-18, Bill C-26 (just to name a couples) where was the public pressure or more like, did he care about the public pressure?

The only thing to stop them is the Opposition threatened a no-confidence vote and turf them out! When people are in a position of Power aka Politician, the only thing they fear is losing that Power! Anything else can be bought with rebates/grants/extra tax breaks or simply suppression!

A good start would be Not legalizing open drug use in public so the entire downtown turns into the worlds largest injection site & all of downtown is a free for all of shooting up & smoking crack . In front of small businesses that already have it hard enough without scaring away customers, blocking the front entrances that families need to walk into , shooting up in public parks that are meant for people walking their dogs and children to play in , not a giant dump for used needles .

I agree, in the sense that nobody won by a landslide, and that if it's NDP and Greens for the next while will remember that they barely got in and barely did so because they took their time in power for granted.

The downtown Eastside has never been cleaned up in the 30 years I've been here . Mind you in the last 20 years it has gotten worse. Do we blame the liberals/bc united/conservatives or the NDP ? Where do we draw the line ? 2001 or 2017 ?

One thing i remember its the increase of people in the year after closing Riverview hospital .

Disappointing election, though the result might turn out to be what's needed.
I spoiled my ballot. What I wanted was just not an available option where I live.

Once upon a time the right in BC used to be builders instead of destroyers, but that sure as fuck does not apply to these ignorant prejudiced crooked clowns. I won't ever vote Con as long as they act like a bunch of "Maple MAGA" Q-tards, with beliefs from the dark ages. They do not even get a "consider", not provincially or federally.

I still haven't voted NDP, ever. I think that when they get to work on getting shit done, they have not been bad on that side of policy, but FFS get them out of the bog of endless niche "social justice" concerns. I get that the years of 2019-now have seen the most fucked up "can't control that" times in BC history (at least since the depression and WW2) - COVID, heat waves, massive floods, global inflation crisis, major wars getting worse. However, the way they turned chicken-shit on the carbon tax meant that even with a shitty binary choice, I was not going to give them my vote, not even lend it for one term. That and how they deliberately tanked the electoral reform campaign means they do not give a fuck about anything but their tactical advantage, and still think that lack of choice is the key to forcing people to vote for them.

Continuing low-grade disappointment versus imminent disaster is not a real choice, and I refused to be forced into only those two options. The "big two" parties both had the choice to be better - they chose to be worse. Fuck em.
