Hello to my fellow Canadians and other guests. Just been curious since Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine I notice a large quantity of ukrainian flags all over cars, homes etc.

So I was wondering how do Canadians feel that Trudeau giving away millions of millions of our tax money to Ukraine, while Canadians getting poorer and Ukrainian corrupt officials getting richer. Do not get me wrong I am not against support only if everything is ok in our country, but it hurts me when I see more and more people line up at food banks. By the way I am Ukrainian, just used RussianGuy nickname so do not hate me by RussianGuy nickname. Yes I am Canadian living over 17 years in this country.

That's what we (and many other nations) do. Support other countries in need.

Yes our economy is in shit and having tough time, however, it does not mean that we can/should not support other countries in need

There are huge numbers if Ukrainians here. Many came after the Russians starved Ukraine in the 1930s, killing millions. I work with dozens of Czechs and Poles who fled Russian occupation and none of them have anything good to say about Russia.
Many of these people have travelled back and forth from their homeland and have had relatives visit here.

Russia is expansionist. Their television commentators advocate continuing the attack until the Baltic States are recaptured. Russia’s prime minister says they should continue to Portugal. These are popular opinions in Russia.

Many members here were in Canadian Forces Europe in the 70s and 80s. If not for the large NATO presence Russia would have conquered all of Europe. They did invade Hungary and Czechoslovakia for being too neutral.

Putin Russia is claiming Canadian territory in the Arctic. Putin wants free access to waters that Canada owns. Russia is a clear and ongoing danger to Canada. Russia will take any Canadian territory it can get away with.

Now Ukraine is fighting these barbarians. For a tiny fraction of what our 70s deployments cost. The self proclaimed second most powerful military in the world has suffered huge losses in personnel and material, all well documented. No Canadian personnel are being risked.

Our contributions to UKR are a bargain for the return on investment.

No I haven't donated towards Ukraine, because I like my money too much and I care more about my life in Canada because I am living here.
I remember back in 2014 when war in Donbass started Canada gave uniforms to our army that didn't have anything. The top generals were selling it to soldiers for profit. That's how corrupt everything there. Anyway was good to see opinions that lots of Canadians do care about Ukraine.

I think number 1 expansionist is USA. The amount of wars and revolutions USA has done in world is ridiculous. Nobody cared when they bombed Yugoslavia in 1999 or Iraq. Exactly no Canadian personnel being risked, just the west needs this war to benefit in its own way.
I guess nobody heard here about Donbass city of Donetsk and Lugansk which Ukraine bombed from 2014. I am from Donetsk also. I haven't seen western media showing what ukrainian forces were doing there. They didn't show some private battalions like Azov with swastikas and raising hand to the sun. Ukraine's former president Poroshenko used to say about Donetsk and Lugansk- "their children will be sitting in shelters, and our children will be going to school"
I can go on forever with examples like this. Anyway was interesting to see opinions of Canadians and I appreciate all kind of answers.

That's one of dissent answers here) Hmm democracy, to be honest democracy is brainwashing bullshit. What is democracy? Yes Ukraine had elections with changing presidents but our economy was getting worse with each year. Russia and China developed their own economic grows. China is so far ahead of anybody with technology and gadgets that will surpass US economy is 20 years probably.

Meanwhile Ukraine with each new president that comes hungry for power and money gets poorer. But yes I hate Trudeau and hope he resigns before elections. Yes he got nice socks and hair😄

If Ukraine falls Latvia Lithuania and Estonia will be next, and the Russians themselves say that. Then Hungary and their Putin lapdog PM. Russia will NOT stop unless someone stops them.

Stalin and his successors all moved Russians into these countries to destroy local cultures and assimilate the population. This is how Russia can use the bullshit argument that they are defending ethnic Russians, when in fact those Russians do not belong there at all.

I think the US, UK and other NATO countries did the right thing to take out yet another mass murderer in 78 days. Bombing and Special Forces was their solution because no NATO country wanted to get bogged down with troops on the ground for another 20 year war.
