This makes no sense. The reason he got 'the cold shoulder' is because he had the spine to confront despot Modi at the G20 with evidence that the Indian government was involved with killing a Canadian on Canadian soil.
Conservatives wanted Trudeau to bow to Trump during NAFTA talks. Now they want him to bow to Modi. Trudeau has his faults, but unlike most conservatives, he is not a coward.
Poilievre and Harper continue to kiss Modi's fat ass. But Trudeau sure won't.
India is the lesser of 2 evils. China being the other one for cheap supply of consumer goods. China and India are at odd with India northern border.
China is up on the chopping block due to US backing of Taiwan, and the right of free passage in contested waters, which China is now claiming as its own (South China Sea).
The Malacca Strait strait is a major trade route, if closed due to conflict with China in the South China Sea or Taiwan, over 50% of World Trade will be affected.
The other thing that could happen is the China/India/Afghanistan/Iraq to Russia trade route which could effectively isolate the West. Again through the Malacca Strait.
Actually Trudeau when bringing in Singh, effectively partnered with a culture that has terrorist/militant actions back in India. The fact that they say they have a peaceful religion, is very telling; in that historically Sikhs are a militant people.
While Canadian population is of a majority of European descent, more and more Canadian domestic politics are being affected by minority parties (Aboriginals, China, India). But our foreign policy is usually dictated by US position on world events. The US position is the enforcement of patents, which makes their multinationals very rich. Countries with muslim governments don't believe in patented technology. And China doesn't either. The problem in the US it needs more competition to drive down the prices of normal things, instead of relying on foreign imports (which are owned by US companies). Patents restrict competition.
An non-example of a patent is the jet engine. Developed/Patented by a British inventor in the British air force between World Wars. The first jet engines were German using this British patent design, then British. The Americans were given the jet engine through technology transfer in WW2. Where would America today be without the jet engine?
Our Canadian Economy is affected by the major US companies plying their manufacturing in the far east (India, China, Malaysia etc). During Covid the slow down of trade with China affected the supply chain for material goods. Seen by empty shelves in supermarkets and other stores. The Canadian economy is affected by global shortages that are started in the far east.
Today India is where China was at 35 years ago. China got it base in finance thru the failed business ventures/mutual funds created in the early 90s when Hong Kong was being given back to China. That was 35 years ago. If you need cheap labour, and can't go to China, you are going to India.
