Yeah, most of the other resources in other countries were like this. Lots of hearsay, "do your own research", locker room talk, dick waving, and well wishes. I'm not disparaging seeing escorts in other countries. I'm focusing on the lack of useful, coherent resources for people to learn, research, and use.
To address the post directly about Japan, sure those places existed, but they exist the same way naked sushi existed here. Lots of sensationalism but they don't last and aren't the bulk of what's offered. The language barrier and xenophobia is a big thing to overcome. Even with all the research in the world, unless you're Japanese (this doesn't include Chinese, Korean, and other Asian ethnicities), you'll need introductions to be made or you're effectively locked out of most of what's available, or exhorted gross sums of money for little return.

Maybe different times and place, but in Japan I had it totally different - never even imagined having to consult anyone as I always had a girlfriend and when I didn't, it was because of my choice. Other than that, I could have a date and/or a girlfriend anytime pretty much. My regret is I should have take advantage of that instead of being always on the serious side. Still, my life there was very far from boring. Pay for sex? Never even thought about that as it wasnt necessary. And then thete were the telephone clubs, adverts on the streets and telefone booths everywhere. It was the promissed land for me in so many aspects.

Japan's economy was hit hard by Covid and is still recovering. There's a whole bunch of issues but probably best discussed in another thread.
When I was visiting Cabo the secret I found was a way to see whos working or not when it comes to the nightlife street, bar and club scene. Some make it known but many of the working ladies blend in without giving you the feeling that they could possibly be available. Could it be just a local lady or visitor having a fun night out? Or could it be more?
The trick is to see if they are wearing a bracelet that says model on it.
Its nice to have a place to go but if all options fail they do have very nice love hotels for pretty cheap that you can rent throughout the day or night for hours.
Imagine seeing a random spanish lady who looks like an untouchable dream that wouldnt give you the time or day having a fun night out on the town. It might seem like a far away fantasy but in the downtown nightlife scene of Cabo there is a possibility that she could be available that night or a different day/night for some company. Once you realise how many workers are available partying and so on like they are just another local enjoying a night out its crazy.
I can only imagine if my my home citys nightlife scene had the same setup.
I know for a fact that I would be broke very quick.
In the day or evening on the town its easy to run into people who ask if you are looking for ladies. If you find the right hookup you can be at a love hotel in no time with a knockout spanish beauty. Mexican, Colombian the list goes on. If you want to see what an ad with photos would look like when they show you who is available send me a message.
Massage spots are all over the downtown core but its a real hit or miss situation. With this setup you can see the working ladies in person without any traveling. Same with strip joints but get ready to pay at every stage of the adventure. Such as buy drink for lady, get lap dance, pay for backroom or upstairs action. You can stop at anytime before the next act but when you have a beautiful spanish lady with an out of this world bum grinding against your crotch its pretty damn hard to stop.
The resort I was at used to be great years ago for getting working ladies to your room but now its the complete opposite. Unless you have some special hookup that gets ladies past the guards its a big no go at this given time. No clue about other resorts but most likely the same when it comes to the big high security ones.
If you stick to the tourist zones you will be pretty safe but that doesnt mean you cant get swindled on the Pesos and USD spending though. If you play your cards right you can have some great adventures.
The best and most safe path is to be sober when seeking providers but if you want to drink try and stay away from getting wasted or leaving a drink unnatended. Bottled beers or cans are your safest bet. Just remember you are in their playground.
You dont want to wake up with zero or faded memories and a big chunk of money missing from your bank or even worse outcomes. I mean you could of had a wild time but it sure doesnt count if you cant clearly remember any memories.
When taking out cash. Stay away from the atms on the street and use safe bank atms. Many of the atms on the street are tourist scamming traps.
