anyone watch Evil Dead Rise? seen it twice now (once in AVX with great sound) still awesome. the series is probably the most consistent horror franchise ever

if anyone is a fan of Ari Aster, Beau Is Afraid was super weird but worth it just to talk about it lol

on the action movie topic:
john wick 4, incredible. almost every scene has a highlight, gorgeous cinematography too.

guardians of the galaxy vol 3, best thing in the mcu since infinity war and endgame imo. lots of heart. great finish to the trilogy.

the raid 1 and 2 probably up there as some of the greatest action movies ever. i feel they helped make the longer uncut action takes more popular in hollywood and western action cinema - along with the first john wick. especially after the shaky cam mess of the Bourne series.

lots of good stuff coming out this year:
mission impossible 7 and Oppenheimer in back to back weeks is going to be awesome. and Dune part 2! Villenueve is almost untouchable. been on fire since Incendies

Saw the movie 'Sisu' tonight.

It's another Rambo movie, except this time, Rambo is from Finland, his name is Sisu, and he's fighting Nazis.
It is very action packed, but at the same time, almost cartoonish as to how ridiculous it is, in the sense that our hero doesn't die, no matter what his opponents do. The ending makes you burst out laughing, that's how ridiculous it is.
I heard someone in the theater say out loud that it seems like a Tarantino movie, and that comment seemed very accurate.

If you like action/ adventure, it's great, just don't nit pick the details, you'll frustrate yourself.
This movie has been on my watch list for a while. Where or how did you watch it?

His name is actually Aarti. Sisu is the Finnish belief of never giving up no matter the odds, or something like that.

Polite Society. Mostly South Asian cast, who are all great, especially the two sisters. It's set in London, and dialogue is in English. Not your usual Bollywood stuff. Only one song, and it's done as a distraction at a wedding. Part rom/com, part Bend it Like Beckham, part Hidden Dragon, with a dash of sci fi. A real surprise how original and good it was.

Saw latest iteration of Mission Impossible last night in AVX or whatever the full on (not DBox) theater experience is.
Its good.
Could have dropped about a half hour of some of the filler in my opinion and it wouldn't have lost anything.
And love him or hate him, Tom Cruise, man that guy is a stunt man legend. The cliff jump is friggin awesome.

He will do anything to entertain theatergoers, that deserves some respect at least.

I also saw it, and I'm now in love with Hayley Atwell

I thought Tetris was surprisingly good. And of all the video game movies they've made thus far, this was the last one I expected a car chase in lol

I watched the hyped-up Chris Nolan film Oppenheimer on OTT. @masterpoonhunter :sneaky:

If you read about all the secrecy surrounding its production, you'll likely conclude that Nolan is a really weird dude.

And then there's his brother, who was accused of being an assassin in 2009.

I found the movie boring. But that means it's going to likely get an Oscar/award like Will Smith did.

On another note, I'm a bit worried about RDJ. He hasn't looked well in years since he was killed off in the Marvel Universe. Perhaps this is the jump start he needs.

Asteroid City (2023)
Directed by Wes Anderson
Cast: Tom Hanks, Jason Schwatrzman, Scarlett Johansson

Watched it for 16 minutes then i lost interest , some good visuals, maybe try again later.
I don't know the appeal of Wes Anderson films, can someone explain why.

Ambulance (2022)
Directed by Michael Bay (Transformers, Bad Boys.)
Got to be the dumbest group of thieves in the history of movies. I lost some brain cells watching this train wreck.

Caught Transformers Beast thing with my 2 sons - just good rockem sockem entertainment.

Asteroid City, well its an art film I guess, no comment but my fabulous breasted FWB liked it so the entertainment after was pretty good!

And saw Oppenheimer at the Park, one of the last 70 mm projectors. Don't think it made that much of a difference vs digital but it's kind of a community in that theater. Reminds me of the old Odeon ?? (in Winnipeg, where I saw Predator for the first time). So since this is in my wheelhouse I would have to say it was pretty on re the general history and for the most part the science. Great performances by Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey and that lawyer for the US witch hunt committee, fuck just wanted to reach into the screen and deck him. So far it would have the best actor performances in my opinion.

Got to see Oppenheimer last night. RDJ and Murphy are definitely getting Oscars for their performances. I'll admit I had a hard time keeping track of who's who, but I was still engaged throughout. Think it needs a second viewing to fully take in everything.

i saw Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX on the 20th in Langley and the clarity difference was huge compared the regular movies playing digitally. for example Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 (awesome movie BTW) you could still make out some pixels on screen.

the aspect ratio opening up to 1.43:1 vs 2.20:1 on a lot of scenes on 15perf/70mm vs 5perf/70mm at the Park is also a big difference.

i remember my jaw dropping during the opening shot of Dunkirk when i saw it on 70mm IMAX at Langley as well. the image was amazingly clear

as for the actual film itself, though Nolan is one of my fav directors, i was a little underwhelmed. even though the score, cinematography, acting were all very good though. agree with the 2nd viewing. going to try and see again
