So, the season is now officially over. Hope it's a good draft year.
Anyone dreaming of a Whitecaps-style rebound are most likely doing just that - dreaming.
Benning will have to be next, and will the new GM stick with Boudreau?

That's why I think they should have started with Benning! Only thing I can think of is they have a GM in mind and that's who they like!

Just shows you how incompetent the ownership group is to hire a coach when you don't have a GM. Any GM will want to hire their own coach and not someone who the Aqulini's already hired. Come to think of it what competent hockey guy will want the job when the owners mettle in the business too much. Look for a "yes" man to be the new GM

I hope they don't help smart thing and not try to salvage the season with big trades unless to get draft picks.

That's the reason they got rid of (part ways with) Linden, he wouldn't play the yes man.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canucks-fire-gm-jim-benning-night-coaching-change/

The constant the past 7 years was Benning but the constant for a lot longer has been the owner and unless there are multiple owners who can displace whomever is in charge, ownership is not going to change. The team will probably respond to the firings as a slap in the face wakes people up, whether they can play to their potential is another thing. I agree with what was posted earlier, they aren't that bad a team just can't seem to get their shit together for a full 60 minutes.

Hope Boudreau can make this team a winner. Looking at his record he has been to many finals with teams that should have won it all but lost in the playoffs. Sound familiar?

Not saying any of u guys are as I have a couple of friends who are die hard Canuck fans but the average fan is garbage, just like the team. They whine when they lose and riot when they get the closest they've ever been to winning anything.
Un-like the soccer fans all over the world?
The word “fan” is derived from “fanatic”.
I guess there was no die hard fans at the riots?

it is criminal that the Canucks charge hundreds to see a game. If not for COVID you can go to California and watch 3 games for less than the price of one game in Vancouver.
I still say Boycott.

This should spark up this " sleepy " team. Boudreau has a fairly good track record. I'm not saying that they will now go on a 15 gm sinning streak but, if this move doesn't shake up the team on this ice, the next move will be trades. I say Brock will be one of the ones leaving. Again, if trades happen!!

Honestly, I have seen this season's dismal start coming ever since Petterson and Boeser decided to do a contract negotiation holdout and miss training camp.
Did the coach lose the support of locker room, the GM... or did they ? Whatever it is, something's been broken ever since then, and it wasn't so great even before that.

Plus consider how the Canucks let some other guys slip away who later proved so valuable to their new teams (and got revenge on the Canucks whenever they played them), and kept getting stuck with some useless players with large dead-weight contracts (Ballard, Ericsson). That falls on GM's and owners, and not coaches.

Exactly. Fans in the stadium should have chanted "fire the owners", even if that's asking for something impossible. (And they should keep the chant in their back pocket in case this turnover doesn't fix things.)
The Canucks' fortunes have always seemed to wax and wane depending on who owns them. Remember the McCaw bros, and how those years went? Yeah, I think everyone who does was happier to forget them.

Coaches always face the executioner first. GM's next. "Hockey Operations" execs after that. And owners never.

Linden, poor guy, seemed to always catch shit from the team, undeservedly - that whole Keenan / Messier / McCaw debacle, then later he comes back to the team as an exec, and even under different owners, he still got treated shabbily in the end.

Well, anyways, I hope the new bosses do not just rip things up for the sake of putting their own personal stamp on it. "Desperate" is just blood in the water for trade sharks, and as you say, the temptation will be there to trade someone for the sake of being seen to do something.

They absolutely had to do something and I’m not unhappy with what they’ve done. I like Green but clearly that group of players is in some sort of rut and a change was needed.

Beaudreau is only on a 2 year contract so whomever the new GM is won’t have to keep him around for long if things aren’t working.

I’m okay with Smyl for the short term and he gives them time to long for a new GM. I don’t think they will make any big trades now until Beaudreau has a chance to get this group going.

Hughes and Petterson held out together not Boeser.

The beautiful Fraser Valley !
Green unfortunately couldn't find any Puck luck in Games they probably should have Won this Season .
Benning was too inept to see this unfolding before his Eyes, which fortunately cost him his Job !
The Aquilinis have worn out their welcome as Owners, when they couldn't see the writing on the Wall with Benning's Rebuild not making the Playoffs again last Season .

Vancouver Fans can only hope that Chip Wilson might save Us from these contemptible Owners ! 🙄
As not many Residents have the Financial Assets to purchase the Team . Now, there's a Petition I would love to put my Signature on .

This trashy Canuck's Fan is predicting a .500 plus Season, and making the Playoffs !
I'd easily put Them up against any Team, an uncouth local guy's willing to Pick, any day of the Week .
It's always so easy to convey ignorant Generalizations, without articulating any real Vision . 🤔
There's nothing like having Delusions of grandeur !

Mr Q.

P.S. I'll take the Win... , You've got to start somewhere ! 😉
I know another rabid Fan who's psyched about taking out the Trash .

First win for the new coach :)

The people that caused the riot are not true fans just people whom want to ruin for everyone else.

Cory

Exactly. The rioters never gave a fuck about the game - it was a planned riot, which would have happened win or lose.
