My personal faves:

Burdock & Co (for a night out with the wife and to have the best service)
Savio Volpe (Italian + second best service)
Spezzatura (Italian + dog friendly patio)
Bells & Whistles (sports bar with actual good food)
Arbor (for the best patio)

Fav restaurants?
Just off the top:
Calabash - reggae mon
Nuba Gastown - just go you'll love it
Los Cuervos - no pretense, just great Mexican
Across the street, Sal Yi Limon, great Mexican cafeteria style - huge portions
the Charlatan - all the charm and general colourfulness of the Drive and utterly fantastic cauliflower wings
Peppitos - need a reservation
Bon's Off Broadway - diner, as basic as it gets
Flying Beaver - might be the best damn beef dip and fries this old cowboy has ever had
AJ's - Brooklyn pizza, great neighbourhood place
But with so so many, its a tough question!

Ask For Luigi is one of my favorites.
oh yeah this is my favourite Italian! I totally forgot to mention it.

Maybe if you wanna shit yourself for the next 24h 😂

Been to all of these! I used to work at Arbour before it was Arbour. The patio was so fun!

- Nightengale (fancy/so good/not to expensive. I take any visitor here)
- Gurkha Himalayan restaurant on Davie (Healthy, yummy goodness that reminds me of my time wandering around the Himalaya's)
- Giardino's (amazing Italian and I love people watching "The real housewives of Vancouver" there)
- Season's In The Park (Pretty views and great food)
- Red Umbrella (breakfest)
- The Pawn Shop (cheap tacos that are 10/10)
- The Greek by Antoli (Good music and the most amazing vegan greek salad. Better then any greek salad you will ever have)
It might not be my all time favourite but Cuchillo in Gastown has a really unique menu and is a must try. It's Latin American and the steak taco with bluberry jam and whatever else is such a weird combination but also incredibly delicious and you won't find it anywhere else.

Next on my list... Laowai the hidden Dim Sum place in Chinatown. When it first opened I heard the line was 2 hours. Looks pretty inside. I also wanna try Acquafarina, the Italian place that doesn't let you see a menu before you arrive. Anyone been to these?
I've always wanted to go to Gurkha! I'll have to check it out. I definitely want to try Laowai. I went to Acquafarina once, yeah, it's fucking good hehehe. I usually go for Asian noodles over Italian pasta so I don't really frequent Italian restaurants but I would definitely recommend it!

Tacofino's nachos and margs are next level (the new Ocho is a great space, too). And I love grabbing some Downlow Chicken and heading over to East Van Brewing for the "Downlow" discount (buck off any pint).
Love the dumplings at Bao Bei, too, and the pizza at Via Tevere.
I'll second Burdock and Co and Luigi, especially brunch at the latter and the carbonara with a poached egg.

Oh man. Here we go.

Sopra Sotto: newish place with 2 locations. Delicious pastas with great portions and solid desserts. Haven't had their pizza yet

Ragazzi Pizza: I had this on Italian day on 2017 and it's very good. I also second Aj's Brooklyn pizzeria.

Fishing Chips: delicious fish and chips in white rock. The way they do the fish is lengthy so the batter remains super crunchy throughout but also never dry

Maria's Taverna for Greek. Amazing Kalamari that uses two kinds of flour so when you squirt the lemon it doesn't gets soggy. All their meats are never dry. I like any souvlaki over the roast lamb.

Dinesty is decent enough for Chinese. I also like this hole in the wall called Happy Noodle House. Long's Noodle House and Yu Xiang Yuan also all do similar delicious types Chinese food.

For barbecue I like Smoke n Bones in North van. Its a tad pricey but worth it. I like the Ribwich sandwich (add cheese) or the ribs and Normal bbq platter

Best Indian for me Is Dosa Factory on Kingsway. Amazing butter chicken and Naan. Wednesday special is 11.99, any curry, a bit of rice and a Naan. The rice is too little so I get an extra Naan. They do it with the slapping on the thing to make it crispy on outside but fluffy on the inside. Decent doses too but I like the curries the best. Like seriously it's unique in spices the best butter chicken in vancouver I swear it. If you don't go on Wednesday it's kinda expensive, like 20 bucks for the curry only

If I come up with more I will post more

Best overall:
-L'Abbatoir - the level of food and creativity here is probably as close to a 1-2* Michelin restaurant as we can get in Vancouver
-St.Lawrence - Can't get this level of decadent French rustic style richness anywhere else in BC.

Seafood:
-Ancora. Their ceviche and any fish dish is amazing.

Sushi:
-Sushi bar shu or Masayoshi for high end omakase nigiri
-Sushi bar maumi for slightly cheaper but great nigiri omakase
-Stem for higher end Japanese tapas minus sushi
-Kiriri in Richmond for good overall mid-range restaurant with a but of everything and set combos.
-Sushi Garden/Town/California for cheap, accessible, great value sushi chains for takeout
-Miku/Minami if you want to impress someone who doesn't mind overpaying for mid-tier sushi, or won't notice.

Steak:
-Cook your own using meat from Sebastian's. But Elisa if you must eat out. Hy's for the classic steakhouse experience.

Tons of others but I don't have time to type out more categories. Plus a few small ones that already have long waitlists/lines that I selfishly keep to myself.
